Use Of Selected Macroinvertebrates As Indicators Of Sedimentation Effects On Huntington River, Utah, Michael Kenneth Reichert
Use Of Selected Macroinvertebrates As Indicators Of Sedimentation Effects On Huntington River, Utah, Michael Kenneth Reichert
Theses and Dissertations
Benthic macroinvertebrate communities of Huntington River, Emery County, Utah were studied to determine effects of sedimentation from construction of Electric Lake Dam, a state highway, and two bridges. Approximately 900 benthic samples were collected from riffle areas above, in, and below the construction zone from January, 1971 to December, 1973. Two settling basins below construction sites were effective in limiting scouring of downstream communities. Heavy silt deposition was limited to a 1-km stream reach. Number of indicators, density, and biomass were reduced in the construction zone during periods of sediment input. During periods of scouring, density and biomass were reduced; …
The Effects Of Sewage Pollution Abatement On Environmental Quality In Hillsborough Bay, Florida, Joseph J. Simon, Wen H. Huang
The Effects Of Sewage Pollution Abatement On Environmental Quality In Hillsborough Bay, Florida, Joseph J. Simon, Wen H. Huang
Reports
Owing to the construction of a large municipal advanced (tertiary) waste water treatment (AWT) plant, a unique opportunity exists to study the side effects of removal of a major point source of pollution on the estuarine environment of Hillsborough Bay. The data is still in more or less raw form, with little analyses or interpretation attempted to date.

A New Kimballian Peccary From Nebraska, C. Bertrand Schultz, Larry D. Martin
A New Kimballian Peccary From Nebraska, C. Bertrand Schultz, Larry D. Martin
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
A new species of Pliocene peccary, Prosthennops (Macrogens) graffhami; is described from the Kimball Formation, Ogallala Group, Frontier County, Nebraska. This new species is the latest in geologic age and most advanced in the genus.
The remains of fossil vertebrates are generally rare in the upper part of the Ogallala group, and some have maintained that Hemphillian faunas such as Coffee Ranch and Smith County, Kansas, represent the latest Ogallala faunas. Later faunas than are typically considered as Hemphillian, containing more advanced forms, occur in the Kimball Formation and deposits of equivalent age. Known faunas which may …

Summary Of Trial Results - 1974, N R. Mckeown
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Observations and measurements were made on 10 grazing trials and 11 small-plot legume species trials in 1974. Three of the grazing trials were under crop, two of them concluding low oestrogen species trials which had been grazed since 1969, and one of them, 68M023, West Moora, as an interval between pasture phases. The small-plot trials dated from 1970 or later and on most of them half of each plot could be grazed by sheep and half was protected. These trials have continued to supply useful information on the suitabiliy of cultivars to soil and climate and will be the subject …

Environmental Evaluation Report Onn Various Completed Channel Improvement Projects In Eastern Arkansas, Edward E. Dale Jr., Thomas M. Buchanan, Richard L. Meyer, Robert T. Huffman
Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports
The objective of this report is to evaluate the beneficial and adverse effects that certain channel improvement projects have had on the natural or man-made environments of selected areas in eastern Arkansas. This evaluation will be used as a baseline for determining the immediate and long-term effects that a project may have on the existing environment of the Village Creek Basin.

Fisheries Report No 19 - The Western Rock Lobster Fishery 1973 - 1974, G. R. Morgan, E H. Barker
Fisheries Research Reports
The fishery for the western rock lobster* is one of the most important single fisheries in Australia and an important export earner for the State. The fishery is governed by a complex set of regulations which have been reviewed by Bowen (1971) and which are designed to limit the total effort to acceptable levels and to enforce a legal minimum size. It is thus important to constantly monitor the state of the fishery both to ensure that the effort is remaining within the accepted limits and that the regulations are adequately performing their function of maintaining reasonably stable catches. Inherent …

Fisheries Report No 18 - Tuna Survey In Waters Off The Western Australian Coast During The Period August 1973 To August 1974, J. P. Robins
Fisheries Research Reports
In September 1972, Markwell Ross Fisheries Pty Ltd (a subsidiary fishing division of Q.U.F. Industries Ltd) approached the Western Australian Department of Fisheries and Fauna (now Department of Fisheries and Wildlife) for assistance in the development and carrying out of a purse seining programme using the 25m rock lobster vessel F.B. Western Star.
Negotiation and agreement was reached, with the objective to undertake and carry out an investigation into the feasibility of developing a purse seine fishery for tuna in Western Australian waters. The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife (Development Section) supplied, on loan, capital fishing equipment (purse seine net, …

Fisheries Report No 16 - Notes On The Wildlife Of A Proposed Nature Reserve Around Lake Grace And Lake Chinokup, Western Australia, N. L. Mckenzie, W. K. Youngson
Fisheries Research Reports
During 1972 and 1973 plants and vertebrate animals were collected and recorded from a proposed 22 000 ha nature reserve centred on a chain of salt lakes in south-western Western Australia (33° 10' S - 33° 35' 8 and 118° 19' B - 118° 29' E).
The dominant plant species were collected, the structural formations desert bed and a vegetation map produced. Seven species of native terrestrial mammal and three species of bat were recorded.
Three of the terrestrial species are endemic to southwestern Western Australia, and two of these - Pseudomys occidentalis and Sminthopsis granulipes - are regarded as …

Fisheries Report No 17 - Some Aspects Of Tuna And Its Potential In The Oceanic Waters Off Western Australia, J. P. Robins
Fisheries Research Reports
In this report an endeavour has been made to describe very briefly the growth of the tuna fishery in Australia, world production, utilisation, price and future demand, tuna species descriptions, species occurrence around the Australian coast and the results of two aerial surveys for tuna off. the west and north-west coasts of Western Australia.

Decide : How Much Superphosphate, G A. Robertson, J. W. Bowden, N. J. Halse
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
* A 400 per cent increase in ihe price of superphosphate has reduced the economic optimum rates of super for crops and pastures in 1975.
* Many factors, both biological and economic, must be taken into account in determining the rate of superphosphate to apply.
• DECIDE, a model developed by CSIRO and the Department of Agriculture, provides a formal system in which all these factors can be considered.
• DECIDE is based on the results of all research on superphosphate carried out in Western Australia. However, each farmer's own knowledge of his farm, the soils, crops and animals is …
