A Study Of Basic Characteristics Of "The Man Of Tao" Of Lao Tzu And "Self-Actualizing People" Of Maslow, Kuang-Fu Chang
Masters Theses
This thesis serves two purposes: One, it reveals the influences of Taoist philosophy on Maslow's humanistic psychology which has become the third force in the field of psychology; secondly it lets all those who have regarded Chinese classics as nothing but a bundle of obsolete stuffs know that an archaic well still has fresh water to be drawn out to use.
In Tao Te Ching, or Lao Tzu the book, the man of Tao and innocent child are highly praised by Lao Tzu and may be referred to as ideal characters of his mind. Metaphysically, Tao is the Way, the …
The Influence Of Alexander Bain And Herbert Spencer Upon William James, David D. Nelson
The Influence Of Alexander Bain And Herbert Spencer Upon William James, David D. Nelson
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study investigates the influence of Alexander Bain (1818-1903) and Herbert Spencer (1820-1903) upon William James (1842-1910). James is generally considered to be the foremost American psychologist and the one who "introduced" experimental psychology to the United States. James had become familiar with the psychological writings of Bain and Spencer early in his career, and he used Spencer's The Principles of Psychology and later Bain's The Senses and the Intellect and The Emotions and the Will as textbooks for his course in psychology at Harvard. Bain was foremost English psychologist at that time, and Spencer was widely known as a …

Marxism And Behaviorism: Ideological Parallels, Stephen Paul Foster Ph.D.
Marxism And Behaviorism: Ideological Parallels, Stephen Paul Foster Ph.D.
University Libraries' Staff Publications
Marxism, as a philosophical system, attempts to provide an accurate analysis of man and his social institutions. Behaviorism, as a system of psychology, claims that its method is fundamental to an understanding of human nature. Both systems justify their claims on the grounds that they are employing methods which are scientific in character. Marxism bases its method on historical analysis, maintaining that history unfolds in an orderly, predictable manner and that a proper analysis of it reveals scientific laws. The general methodology of the natural sciences is the model for behaviorism. Behaviorists point to the successes of the natural sciences …

(1978) A Novel Approach To Philosophy For Children, Ann Margaret Sharp
(1978) A Novel Approach To Philosophy For Children, Ann Margaret Sharp
Collected Papers of Ann Margaret Sharp
Catholic education through the ages has evinced a deep love and commitment to philosophy as a discipline. Traditionally, recognition of its intrinsic merits has been manifested on the college level and, in some instances, on the high school level. Now, for the first time, philosophy is being made available to elementary school children and is being taught in a number of Catholic elementary schools in the country. Under the direction of Dr. Matthew Lipman of Montclair State College, New Jersey, the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children is designing a curriculum in philosophy for children from grades K-12, …

Form And Content In Gorgias' Helen And Palamedes: Rhetoric, Philosophy, Inconsistency And Invalid Argument In Some Greek Thinkers, Arthur Adkinis
Form And Content In Gorgias' Helen And Palamedes: Rhetoric, Philosophy, Inconsistency And Invalid Argument In Some Greek Thinkers, Arthur Adkinis
The Society for Ancient Greek Philosophy Newsletter
I ask whether Gorgias indulges in rhetorical flourishes in which form takes precedence over content, and whether the presuppositions of the Helen and Palamedes are inconsistent with one another. More generally, are the presuppositions and inconsistencies of Gorgias shared with other early Greek philosophers.

Critique Of Feuerbach's Philosophical & Theological Concepts Of God & Man, David Draper
Critique Of Feuerbach's Philosophical & Theological Concepts Of God & Man, David Draper
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
In the critique of Ludwig Feuerbach's identification of the nature of man and of the nature of God, it is seen that his ideas stem from some aspects of Hegelian philosophy. Feuerbach's thought revolves around his conception of man. He believed, after much study, that he perceived in Hegelian philosophy a portrait of man that was veiled by Hegel's mystical concept of Absolute Mind. If, Feuerbach thought, one could strip away the idealistic tendencies of Hegelianism, then one would be left with a true picture of man. He reversed Hegelian thought and re - postulated man in his "Towards a …
