The Impact Of Candida Albicans Glycogen On Fitness, Virulence And Host Response, Jian Miao
The Impact Of Candida Albicans Glycogen On Fitness, Virulence And Host Response, Jian Miao
Theses and Dissertations (ETD)
Candida albicans is an opportunistic human fungal pathogen that presents in healthy persons colonizing the oropharyngeal, esophageal, and gastrointestinal mucosa. This polymorphic fungal pathogen remains a leading cause of both invasive and superficial mycoses. C. albicans can cause oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC) and disseminated candidiasis when normal host immunity is disturbed, while also causing vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) in healthy women. Adaptation to different host niches requires rapid and coordinated changes in Candida metabolism and physiology to cope with host immune surveillance and to counteract host-imposed constraints such as glucose limitation. Although largely unexplored in C. albicans, the glycogen metabolism pathway is …

Quorum sensing is the process by which bacterial cells can communicate by producing substances to regulate viable processes such as gene expression, virulence, and bioflm formation. Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis have specifc enzymes (autoinducers) that control the quorum sensing system. Sortase A is a surface protein that regulates virulence and cell‒cell communication in Gram-positive bacteria. To interfere with this system and reduce virulence and cell‒cell communication, quorum sensing inhibitors are used, which are nonantibiotic substances. In this study, we aimed to use Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs (analgesics and antipsychotics) and investigate their activity using …

This review delves into the connection between inflammation and cancer and outlines the current use of anti-inflammatory drugs as potentially effective cancer prevention and therapy strategies. we herein describe the main relation and the mechanisms underlying the anti-cancer outcomes of anti-inflammatory agents; namely Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), COX-2 inhibitors, LOX-inhibitors, Toll- inhibitors, and antioxidant …
Enhancing Safety Surveillance During Clinical Trials: The Development Of A Safety Data Review Handbook To Support Pharmacovigilance Clinicians, Lauren Wilson
DNP Scholarly Projects
Abstract
BACKGROUND: Pharmacovigilance (PV) Sciences include activities related to safety surveillance of pharmaceutical products, and is critical for developing safe and effective medications, vaccines and medical devices. Safety monitoring starts with preclinical research and continues through clinical trial and post marketing phases. PV scientists ensure patient safety during clinical trials through regular review and analysis of safety data. Regulations have become increasingly complex, leading to inadequately defined methods for reviewing large clinical trial safety datasets. Inconsistent safety data review (SDR) practices can result in delayed detection of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) or safety signals.
METHODS: This quality improvement project used …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
N-glycosylation is a crucial post-translational modification that significantly affects immune recognition. The plant-based platform, especially Nicotiana benthamiana, offers scalable and cost-effective production of therapeutic proteins with glycosylation patterns similar to mammalian cells. However, plant-specific N-glycans, such as α(1-3)-fucose and β(1-2)-xylose (XF), have the potential to trigger allergic reactions. This study investigates how various N-glycan structures on the RBD-Fc fusion protein influence the immune response in mice. The RBD-Fc fusion protein was used for vaccine formulation, produced in both wild-type (WT) and glycoengineered (∆XF) N. benthamiana plants. N-glycan analysis showed a predominance of mannose (Man) in RBD-Fc with an ER retention …
