The Impact Of Having A Native Spanish-Speaking Nurse In Labor And Delivery For Latina Mothers, Lesvia Muñoz Mazariegos

Nursing | Senior Theses

Labor and Delivery is the physiological process in which a pregnant woman gives birth to a baby. With an increase of the Hispanic/Latinx population, the need for Spanish-speaking nurses also increases. Specifically in labor and delivery, language barriers play a critical role for a Latina mother’s laboring experience. However, according to the research, there is limited data on the effects of language concordance/discordance for laboring Latina mothers. To investigate, primary research articles were reviewed focusing on patient experiences with language concordance and discordance, childbirth experiences across different races, and nurses' perceptions of patient experiences related to language barriers. This proposed …

Mental Health Stigma As A Barrier To Care, Whitney Grant

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Abstract

Mental health stigma is a major barrier to care. The mental health stigma as a problem is relevant due to its influence on increasing the burden of mental health issues due to a lack of help-seeking, contributing to increased healthcare costs, and increasing adverse health outcomes. Currently there is no action consistently taken to assess or address this stigma in the primary care setting. Healthcare professionals can help to reduce the perceptions of stigma and lessen stigma as a barrier to care. A quality improvement project was implemented to evaluate if an education intervention by a primary care provider …

Regionality In Heart Failure Self-Care Behaviors Using The Medical Expenditure Panel Survey, Gretchen K. Wendt

Nursing Dissertations - Archive

Heart failure (HF) risks increase as patients age, with most of the HF patients having at least one chronic condition and 40% having two or more. Further confounding the HF morbidity and chronic medical conditions are psychiatric conditions like depression and anxiety. For most Americans with HF, managing the diagnosis and chronic conditions can be overwhelming. To formalize the definitions of HF disease management, the concepts of self-care from the situation-specific theory of HF self-care (SST-HFSC) were applied.

The medical complexity of HF self-care during the pandemic was shown to vary based on the US region where the individual resided. …
