Implementing An Exercise Program In Prediabetic Patients On Glp-1 Ras To Increase Self-Efficacy And Decrease Hgba1c, Bmi, And Weight, Tamara Alston
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Obesity is a significant factor in the progression from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes mellitus. Obesity is a condition of excess adipose tissue caused by an imbalance between the calories a person takes in, the absorption of those calories, and energy expenditure or how many of those calories a person burns. In 2022, the total cost of care for people with diabetes was $413 billion. Evidence indicates increased physical activity is directly associated with weight loss and decreased waist circumference. The literature supports that 150 minutes of weekly exercise can reduce HgbA1c, weight, and body mass index. Additionally, improved self-efficacy …
A Nursing Education Intervention In An Adult Inpatient Setting To Improve Compliance Rate With Pressure Injury Prevention Intervention, Brooklynn Jane Janke
A Nursing Education Intervention In An Adult Inpatient Setting To Improve Compliance Rate With Pressure Injury Prevention Intervention, Brooklynn Jane Janke
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Pressure injuries can lead to life-threatening health complications for patients and cause physical, psychological, and financial stress to patients suffering from them. The literature review demonstrated that bedside nursing staff often have not received the appropriate education about pressure injury prevention and care. The literature review also revealed that nurses prefer to be educated one-on-one and peer-to-peer. Therefore, providing focused and frequent education on pressure injury prevention and improving nurses’ understanding of the importance of pressure injury prevention can improve the quality of care a nurse provides, and patients receive, thus reducing the number of health care-acquired pressure injuries. The …

Reducing Disparities In Breastfeeding Among African American Women Through Professional Support, Latonia Feagin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This project involved developing a toolkit and implementing a staff education program to increase provider self-efficacy and knowledge concerning breastfeeding, increase provider understanding of the importance of a toolkit for addressing the gap in breastfeeding among African American women, and increase the intention of providers to use the toolkit by a minimum of 20%. The clinic reported breastfeeding in only 21% of African American patients, attributing this mainly to provider lack of breastfeeding self-efficacy and knowledge. It is essential for providers to deliver evidence-based, culturally sensitive breastfeeding information. This project involved evaluating provider self-efficacy, knowledge, understanding the importance of a …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This Doctor of Nursing Practice project was a clinical practice guideline project focused on overweight and obesity management of adult women in primary care. The practice problem identified was the lack of an evidence-based clinical practice guideline to manage overweight/obesity in adult women. It was important to address this problem because overweight and obesity were significant health concerns at this clinical site in the United States and the world. The practice-focused question was the following: “Does the evidence support the development and Appraisal of Guideline for Research and Evaluation (AGREE) II instrument quality scoring of a clinical practice guideline on …
An Educational Intervention Focused On The Care Of Older Adults, Michele Orzehoski
An Educational Intervention Focused On The Care Of Older Adults, Michele Orzehoski
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
It is estimated that by 2050, individuals ages 65 and older will comprise 20% of the U.S. population. Further, research has demonstrated that among these aging adults, 80% have one chronic condition with 77% having at least two chronic conditions. Given this, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) developed the Age-Friendly Health System framework for the care of older adults centering on what matters, medication, mentation, and mobility, or the 4Ms. In the local organization, leadership determined there was a need for an older adult-centered care model given their population includes aging individuals. Thus, the purpose of this doctor of …

The Experience Of Transition To Self-Management For Saudi Adolescents With Type I Diabetes, Aeshah M. Almulhim
Dissertations
In Saudi Arabia (SA), between 2011 and 2021, there has been a 108% increase in death rates due to diabetes. Every year, around 3,800 Saudi children and adolescents under the age of 19 are diagnosed with Type I Diabetes (TIDM). Saudi adolescents with TIDM have less glycemic control than adults and younger children. If left untreated, inadequate glycemic control may hasten the onset of diabetes complications and early death. As adolescents with TIDM grow older, they are expected to take on more independence in Self-Management (SM) of their diabetes. The poor clinical outcomes of adolescents with diabetes, the onset of …

Case management is essential in reducing re-admissions for adult ESRD patients, requiring abilities to identify factors affecting adult ESRD patients appropriately.
Methods: Therefore, an evidence-based practice (EBP) project using the IOWA Model framework was implemented to increase the knowledge base in identifying care and resources for ESRD patients for telephonic …
Improving Pediatric Delirium Assessment Documentation And Nursing Knowledge In A Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, Heather E. Herrera
Improving Pediatric Delirium Assessment Documentation And Nursing Knowledge In A Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, Heather E. Herrera
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects - Archive
Pediatric delirium is prevalent in the Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (PCICU). It is associated with longer PCICU stays, extended hospital stays, prolonged duration of mechanical ventilation, and higher hospital costs (Mallick et al., 2022). It has also been associated with increased mortality risk and decreased quality of life after hospital discharge (Rohlik et al., 2021). Due to the adverse sequelae associated with pediatric delirium, routine screening with a validated screening tool is recommended (Flagg & Mauney, 2023). Despite consensus guidelines advocating routine screening for pediatric delirium, routine screening is not being completed (Flagg & Mauney, 2023).

Abstract
Diabetic striatopathy (DS) is a rare neurological manifestation of poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, typically characterized by hemichorea–hemiballismus and distinctive basal ganglia abnormalities on neuroimaging. We report the case of a 57-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes mellitus who presented with generalized choreiform and ballistic movements and subsequently developed an in-hospital cardiac arrest. Diagnostic evaluation revealed uncontrolled hyperglycemia (random blood glucose 243 mg/dL; HbA1c 8.3%) without ketosis, with neuroimaging findings consistent with DS. The patient was initially managed in the casualty department and subsequently admitted to a neuro stepdown intensive care unit, where she remained for 10 days. Comprehensive medical, …
