Evidence-Based Decision Making At The Bedside Process, Roy E. Brown
Evidence-Based Decision Making At The Bedside Process, Roy E. Brown
VCU Libraries Faculty and Staff Publications
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is crucial in healthcare for improving care and organizational outcomes. However, there is a lack of consensus among various health professions regarding the definition and implementation of evidence-based practice in the clinical environment. This lack of consensus centers on whether EBP is project-based or if it occurs primarily at the bedside. This diagram illustrates how evidence is utilized to inform bedside decision-making. It demonstrates that the process is iterative and the intervention or decision made is contingent upon the evidence, one’s clinical experience, and the patient/situation.
The purpose of the diagram is to help those involved in …

Applying Samhsa Trauma-Informed Principles To A New Graduate Nurse Residency Program For Retention, Charman Harper
Applying Samhsa Trauma-Informed Principles To A New Graduate Nurse Residency Program For Retention, Charman Harper
Nursing
The inability to retain new graduate nurses contributes to the nursing shortage. With an estimated cost of over $60,000 to train each new graduate nurse, the inability to retain new nurses financially burdens the healthcare industry (McClain et al., 2022). Current studies show that many new graduate nurses leave their jobs after one year (McClain et al., 2022). Without needed change, it will produce stress, anxiety, poor work performance, and decreased job satisfaction, impacting retention rates (McClain et al., 2022). In addition to the traditional new graduate residency program, incorporating the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Trauma-informed …

It has been noted that twenty percent of adolescents will have a depressive episode or be affected by anxiety by the time they are 18 years old. Mental health issues affecting children and adolescents majorly impact all aspects of their lives, most notably academic success, behavior, growth, and development (Porter et al., 2017). Current treatments for mental disorders, including depression and anxiety, include pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments. In the adolescent population, there are conflicting opinions on the use of antidepressants due to risks …
Impact Of Traditional Education And Learner-Centered Education On Standardized Tests, Courtney Marie Winslow
Impact Of Traditional Education And Learner-Centered Education On Standardized Tests, Courtney Marie Winslow
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
There is a current shortage of approximately 45,000 nurses and nursing faculty to train student nurses, a number that is projected to grow. One proposed method to combat the shortage is to transition from traditional lecture-based classrooms to a learner-centered approach. Asking or requiring faculty to transition an entire nursing program from one teaching method to another without supporting data could be a waste of valuable time and resources. It could also prove detrimental to a program if students were unable to pass the NCLEX-RN exam, and a program was forced to close. The current study examined whether there was …

These instructors rely on staff nurses to provide much of the hands-on education, thus causing the staff nurses to have an influence on the students. The aim of literature review is to understand current research and findings in regard to the impact staff nurses have on nursing students while in the clinical learning environment. This literature review utilized multiple online databases. Searches were conducted on articles from 2016 to 2024 with specific key terms such as student-staff nurse relationships, clinical learning, belonging, incivility, and positive …
Nursing Care During Natural Disasters, War Zones, And Mass Casualty Incidents: Implications For An Educational And Professional Overhaul, Erin N. White
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Emergency situations around the world are inevitable. Any nurse who practices for any period of time is sure to encounter situations like these. Their hospital may be flooded with traumatic and severely life-threatening patient cases where supplies can become scarce. In these situations, a nurse and all other healthcare personnel are expected to act effectively, efficiently and in a highly organized way. Despite this need, many hospitals fail to implement effective disaster preparedness programs and plans. This leaves healthcare workers at a loss for how to treat patients, communicate within and outside of the hospital, coordinate transport, and all the …
