The Character Building Influences Of The School Music Program, James W. Riley
The Character Building Influences Of The School Music Program, James W. Riley
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Before any attempt can be made to show in what ways the school music program may influence the character of children, the problem must be presented and terms defined.
Since this study is not intended to be one of extended psychological research, the reader should bear in mind that the problem is that of the music teacher and not of the psychologist or expert counselor. Therefore our terms will be defined in a very liberal manner, more as they are understood by the average reader.
By character training is meant the conscious or unconscious effort on the part of parents, …

Creative Music, Marjorie Mclennan
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The author has endeavored in this thesis to present the subject of creative music in its two wide aspects, theory and practice.

The Effect Of European Festivals On American Entertainment, Florence Veall
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The selection of the subject "The effect of European Festivals on American Entertainment" was prompted by an assignment in a College of the Pacific Summer School course, "Supervision in the Elementary School."

After an hour of very interesting entertainment which gave an introduction to the background of the foreign members of the class, all lustily sang "America," led …

An Evaluation Of Tests Of Musical Talent, Herbert Clark Levan
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
The problem consists of an evaluation of tests of musical ability to discover which tests are most reliable and useful for elementary school purposes.
In a review of the literature related to the problem an attempt was made to present different viewpoints fairly, to summarize evidence of outstanding tests, to analyze contradictory evidences for possible solution of the questions involved, and to set up criteria for the selection of the best tests.
For further evidence, four selected batteries of comparatively new tests were given to over one thousand children in grades two to six in the schools of Parsons, Kansas. …

These games are all suitable for children in the grades. Some of them are also played by high school pupils and adults. Many of them can be adapted for dances or drills. They are all traditional, coming; to us for the most part from England or by way of England. The many versions indicate the local adaptations made during their travels to us from the Eastern Seaboard States.
