Music Students In Academic Subjects, Harold E. Winslow Jan 1939

Music Students In Academic Subjects, Harold E. Winslow

Graduate Thesis Collection

For some time music teachers in high schools have been told that students who maintain good grades in music are seldom good at anything else.  It was this challenge that prompted the present study - not with any idea of proving that music students are better or worse than students in any other academic subjects, but rather to ascertain just how music students stand in their own subjects.

Music In California State Institutions, David L. Harms Jan 1939

Music In California State Institutions, David L. Harms

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The institutions included in this study are all maintained and controlled by the State of California. However, the music program is not outlined or prescribed by the State but is arranged by the administration of each institution. Consequently, one institution music program differs from another, and it was necessary to contact each institution in order to get the information included in this report.

Since very little material is available on this subject, it was necessary to obtain most of this information first hand. The methods employed were questionnaire and correspondence, direct interviews with superintendents and musical directors, and observation. An …

The Place Of Music-Drama In The Curriculum Of The American Colleges And Universities, Erwin Ruff Jan 1939

The Place Of Music-Drama In The Curriculum Of The American Colleges And Universities, Erwin Ruff

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

If America wishes to see the day when good music drama shall become her best and at the same time her most popular form of entertainment she must investigate the condition of music-drama as it is at present and then decide upon a future method of action to improve that condition.

In a small way, that may be blazing the trail, I have set about to follow the above suggestions. l have made an investigation of music-drama in America, with particular emphasis on music-drama in the colleges and the universities and, as a result, have a definite suggestion to make …

Ballads - Nebraska Folklore, Federal Writers' Project

Special Collections

Compiled by the Federal Writers' Project in Nebraska

"The ballads in this collection were sung in pioneer Nebraska. They have come from the people themselves, having been repeated by word of mouth from generation to generation...It is only from spontaneous folk singing that the ballads can be given color, atmosphere, and new themes, so many of which have been suggested within the past few years by such epic Nebraska events as the drouth, three-cent hogs, ten-cent corn, farm foreclosures and the Farm Holiday Movement."

A Study Of The Administration And Organization Of The High School Band In Western Kansas, Paul H. Andree May 1938

A Study Of The Administration And Organization Of The High School Band In Western Kansas, Paul H. Andree

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

This study is a scientific investigation to determine the educational values of band instruction as a part of the curriculum as well as the accepted methods of procedure, organization and administration of the high school band in Western Kansas. It is obvious that in such an extensive survey as this, it is necessary that the factors involved be limited to certain particular phases of the problem. For this reason and since the greatest outward appearance of advance in the band movement has been made in the past decade in Western Kansas the present survey will present the situation as found …
