A high school choir teacher also serving as the theater music director is faced with the challenge of facilitating the learning process for a similar group of students at two different times of day in two different types of performance. One general key to success is to keep the aim in mind. For classroom choirs, the goal is to perform an intricately refined set of songs, calling for a long-term plan supplemented by learning moments. ABSTRACT

Although Gonzalo Vidal (1863-1946) is arguably one of the most influential Colombian composers, sadly his music has been forgotten and remains unknown. Unfortunately, little is known about his work as a pianist, composer, teacher, capellmeister, conductor, and even as a writer of prose. Even though Vidal has a vast catalogue of works, the majority of which is piano music, his fame is limited to being known as the composer of the anthem of the department of Antioquia.

It would not be overstating the case to say that Jussi Bjorling was extremely popular with artists of the spoken theatre too. He was always very eager to team all about the problems of the theatre and of he actor's art, and when he met actors he never failed to ask us about our experiences in the theatre. He wanted to know as much as possible about the stage and its techniques.

There were all too few occasions on which we at the Royal Theatre enjoyed the good fortune of being able to persuade Jussi Bjorling to sing on our stage. In return, though, these guest appearances become memorable events in our theatre's little history. During the Royal Swedish Opera's guest performances in Copenhagen in 1933 he sang the roles of Vladimir in Prince. Jussi Bjorling! I remembered all the times I heard the young tenor in the 1930s: he was the impecunious, enamoured Rodolfo in La boheme; the cynical Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto; Cavaradossi, the fighter for liberty in Tosca; Manon Lescaut's noble des Grieux; the lyrical Romeo or Faust; the despairing Canio. The voice was always the same- warm, healthy, beautiful.

The excitement was palpable that evening, May 20, 1958, at the Royal Theatre in Stockholm. The two Swedish opera giants, Birgit Nilsson and Jussi Bjorling, would again meet al the Stockholm Opers in Tosca. The theatre was crowded, and the press present- for tonight's performance could not be anything but magnificent. But already in the first act, something happens. Bjorling cannot sustain the tone. He can only whisper per the lyrics. He had suffered one of his recurring vocal cord problems.
