My senior project, Khruangbin On Tour, creates the opportunity to ideate and promote Khruangbin’s, a three-person band, tour through branding and merchandise. The goal is to create visuals, such as a poster or t-shirt design, to complement their songs and the band as a whole through the use of color palettes, typography, objects and illustrations. The music’s feeling and aesthetic should be reflected in the visual aspects as it represents the artist overall and speaks to the audience.

The journey to the podium for a successful music educator that conducts performing ensembles requires a strong methodology steeped in score study, rehearsal planning, repertoire selection, musicianship skills, performance skills, and administrative duties. At the beginning of a career, educators often find themselves lacking the high level skills necessary to become a successful educator on the podium. This is often due to the many non-conducting requirements needed to complete the degree. Once a position is secured and professional life begins, these skills are often not fully developed. Despite recent revisions of the National Music Standards and the Virginia Music Standards of Learning, there have not been efforts to determine how their combination could create a localized music curriculum. Combining the national and state music standards allows the music educator to employ current music education practices and ensure students graduate with a standard set of musical skills and abilities. This study examined how secondary choral directors can combine these standards to create an effective and sequential curriculum for secondary choral directors in York County School Division (YCSD). Elementary music educators’ analyze and select song repertoire based upon a variety of factors and influences. These can include an educator’s level of training, the preexisting standard song literature collection, resources obtained in undergraduate study, the context of the song material, and a song’s pedagogical application. Educators must be selective when choosing literature for pedagogical purposes, such as teaching specific melodic and rhythmic elements. The vast body of musical literature by renowned theatrical composer Andrew Lloyd Webber is not often used for that purpose in the elementary general music classroom. In contrast to traditional Chinese operas, the history of Chinese National Opera1 is only a few decades long. Some scholars believe that many Chinese operas are feminist and female-centered. However, from the aesthetic standard of women’s voice to the female character’s inner world, it is hard to say that one can describe these operas as feminist simply because women play leading roles or the female arias are more than male. Despite the perspectives of music educators in classroom evaluation processes, the perspectives of Texas administrators using the newest teacher evaluation process, the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS), have yet to be examined. The administrators’ perspectives matter because the complexity of the T-TESS process coupled with the uncertainty of music educational knowledge may lead to inconsistency in evaluation. This qualitative study aims to examine the perspectives of Texas administrators concerning their preparation in music teacher evaluation. Margareta Hallin had an interesting and varied career, beginning with her debut in 1955 as Rosina in The Barber of Seville with the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. She went on to sing more than 1,500 performances at the Royal Opera House over the next twenty-nine years and now has a bust there in her honor. This focus on Sweden was by her own choice; Nicolai Gedda, for one, thought that with her “beautiful coloratura soprano voice” she could have had an international career.

Mezzo-soprano Kerstin Meyer, who died at the age of 92 on April 14, 2020, appeared in several operas with Jussi. Recordings survive featuring him with Meyer as Maddalena in Rigoletto in 1957 and as Azucena in Il trovatore in 1960 at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm, the latter being the same role in which she had made her debut there in 1952. She was a longtime member of the Royal Swedish Opera and the Hamburg State Opera and made many guest appearances at the major opera houses of London, Milan, New York, Vienna, and elsewhere. Jussi was proud of being of Finnish descent and he visited Finland on numerous occasions. During the war he sang at charity concerts several times and in 1951 he was happy to meet Sibelius at his home in Ainola, outside Helsinki. After all the long tours for many years, not least across the North American continent, he was at times rather tired of travelling, but to Finland he always travelled with pleasure, as he told a Finnish journalist. Lyric Opera of Chicago was an important venue for Jussi Björling in the last half-decade of his career. Between 1955 and 1958 he sang 31 performances there in nine of his most famous roles. Of these, Il trovatore was the most frequent. He appeared in this opera nine times over three of his four Chicago seasons.

In 1951 there was a centennial celebration in London of the first Great Exhibition at Crystal Palace in 1851. People usually just think of the exhibition and buildings when looking back at this great show, which was such a morale booster after the dark years of WW2. But there was also the London Season of the Arts, and the centerpiece of this centennial was the opening of the Royal Festival Hall, which was to act as replacement for the Queens Hall (where Jussi made his recital debut in 1937) but which had been destroyed by bombs in 1941.

This year is the 100th anniversary of Gosta Bjorling's birth-a talented tenor who would most likely be better known if he hadn't lived in the shadow of his still more talented brother Jussi. David Bjorling's third son ( christened Karl Gustav) was born on 21 September 1912, while his father David was touring with an opera and operetta company.
