Seasonal Variation In The Tubular And Interstitial Areas Of The Testes In Sternotherus Odoratus L., Robert Hans Spaet
Masters Theses
Seasonal changes within the tubular and interstitial areas of the testes in Sternotherus odoratus are investigated, histologically and histochemically. Forty specimens were collected in Illinois, Tennessee and Louisiana between May, 1969 and August, 1972.
Many of the histological and macroscopic observations made by Risley (1938) on the spermatogenic cycle of S. odoratus in Michigan are confirmed. Contrary to his findings, fluctuations in interstitial cell nuclear diameters are observed during spermatogenesis. Greatest diameters coincide with what Risley has considered " . . . period of most active breeding." Sertoli cell nuclear diameters undergo similar fluctuations being greatest during spring breeding and …

A Medicated Dry Foam For Local Therapy In Infected Burns, Patrick Nicholas Catania
A Medicated Dry Foam For Local Therapy In Infected Burns, Patrick Nicholas Catania
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Local burn therapy usually includes the application of medicated ointments and dressings in order to minimize and eradicate infection. As this approach to local therapy may present problems regarding application and removal techniques, it was the purpose of this study to formulate a topical dosage form that may be applied to denuded areas of the skin without inunction. Using the concept of topical films, a dosage form was formulated that is highly water soluble, flexible , and adherent to both denuded and intact areas of the skin.
Anticoagulant Half-Life Of Heparin In Human Subjects With Normal And Impaired Renal Function., Paul James Perry
Anticoagulant Half-Life Of Heparin In Human Subjects With Normal And Impaired Renal Function., Paul James Perry
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Numerous investigators have noted that individuals vary widely in their response to the anticoagulant, heparin. Animal model3 have suggested that patients with depressed renal function would be expected to clear heparin from the blood at a slower rate than patients with normal renal function.
Utilizing the Activated Coagulation Time clotting test, a method was developed to determine the anticoagulant half-life of heparin. The study calculated the half-life of heparin in a group of individuals with normal renal function and a population of patients in chronic renal failure. Intravenous heparin doses of 0,3 units/ml and 0.6 units/ml of blood were administered …
The Effects Of Time-Altered Speech On The Auditory Discrimination Ability Of Aphasics, Frank Deruyter
The Effects Of Time-Altered Speech On The Auditory Discrimination Ability Of Aphasics, Frank Deruyter
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This chapter presents information on aphasic auditory abilities, with specific reference to the following areas: (1) time-altered speech; (2) auditory sequencing ability of aphasics; (3) auditory discrimination ability of aphasics; and, (4) auditory perceptual disturbances cause by lesions in the left temporal lobe.
Information will also be presented on the role of distinctive features in speech perception. Finally, the statement of the problem will be posed.
Technologies For Tissue Culture Electrophysiologic Recording, Lorne Bonkowski
Technologies For Tissue Culture Electrophysiologic Recording, Lorne Bonkowski
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The development of tissue culture electrophysiology has been hindered by these numerous technological problems. The function of this thesis was to identify and propose solutions to these technological problems and concurrently develop a system for prolonged intracellular GME monitoring (30 to 40 hours) of membrane parameters from cells grown in tissue culture.
The technological problems identified in the present study and for which solutions have been proposed are: (1) Maintenance of a sterile environment for an open tissue culture vessel in which GME measurements can be made for periods exceeding 30 to 40 hours.; (2) Elimination of environmental electrical interference …
The Influence Of Electrical Stimulation Of The Leg During Surgical Operations On The Subsequent Development Of Deep-Vein Thrombosis, L R Dejode, Mohammad Khurshid, W W Walther
The Influence Of Electrical Stimulation Of The Leg During Surgical Operations On The Subsequent Development Of Deep-Vein Thrombosis, L R Dejode, Mohammad Khurshid, W W Walther
Section of Haematology/Oncology
The effect of galvanic stimulation of the calf muscles during surgical operations on the development of postoperative deep-vein thrombosis was assessed using 125I fibrinogen in 64 patients over 40 years of age undergoing major surgery. Alternate legs were stimulated in alternate patients using the opposite leg as a control. No significant difference in the incidence of deep-vein thrombosis was observed either in the immediate postoperative period or later.

Medical College Of Virginia Before 1925, And University College Of Medicine 1893-1913, William T. Sanger
VCU University History Books
The first North American hospitals were built in Virginia in 1611. Virginia continued to set hospital and health education trends with the establishment of the Department of Medicine in Richmond, later known as the School of Medicine, in 1837. Through data largely compiled by former secretary-treasurer of the College, J.R. McCauley, this book covers the early history of the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) and the history of health services education in Virginia from 1893 to 1913. Major events covered in this book include the effects of World War I on the College and the unsuccessful proposals to consolidate MCV …

The Dietary Intake Of Preschool Children Attending The Public Health Clinics In San Bernardino, California, Glendover V. Brown
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Preschool children attending Well Baby Clinics directed by the Public Health Department of San Bernardino, California, were the sub jects in this study. The purpose of the study was (1) to compare the eating pattern and habits of the preschool children attending the San Bernardino Public Health Clinics, (2) to assess any differences in the dietary intake of the three major ethnic groups, namely, Mexican- Americans, Whites, and Blacks, and (3) to determine the adequacy of the dietary intake of the preschool children attending the San Bernardino Clinics. One hundred and seventy-seven subjects in this study included 51 Mexican-Americans, 74 …
A Study Of Latency Of Response In A Speech Sound Discrimination Task, Constance R. Heaton
A Study Of Latency Of Response In A Speech Sound Discrimination Task, Constance R. Heaton
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The results of many traditional speech sound discrimination studies have been inconclusive as to the relationship between articulation skill and discrimination ability . Further , these results have allowed researchers to only speculate as to the nature of the cognitive processing involved in making a choice decision . Recently some investigators in speech pathology have measured reaction time in speech sound discrimination studies . The results suggest that reaction time can be useful in the analysis of item difficulty as related to errors in discrimination. The purpose of the present study was to compare on a "same" - "different" sound …

Warble Tone As An Audiometric Stimulus, Gary Dean Dockum
Warble Tone As An Audiometric Stimulus, Gary Dean Dockum
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The warble tone, as an auditory stimulus, is apparently being used in a number of clinical settings. However, it is being used without knowledge of possible threshold differences which may exist between it and the pure tone stimulus. Recent studies comparing the two stimuli have been limited to extremely small samples and to only trained listeners. Also, they provide mostly theoretical information based on the effect of various warble parameters on warble tone thresholds. The purpose of the present study was to compare obtained pure tone and warble tone thresholds for a large group of normal-hearing inexperienced listeners while using …
