Personal And Organizational Variables Related To The Strength Of Mentoring Relationships In Nursing, Willa Fields Dnsc
Personal And Organizational Variables Related To The Strength Of Mentoring Relationships In Nursing, Willa Fields Dnsc
Dissertations
Mentoring is viewed as a viable developmental process for nurses that promotes professional maturation, career satisfaction, and strong, competent leaders. Personal and organizational variables related to mentoring, such as mentoring potential, professional success, immediate organizational climate, general organizational climate, and experience as a mentee, have been described in the theoretical and research literature. A conceptual model for this investigation was developed which related these variables to the mentors' perceptions of the strength of their strongest mentoring relationship. The purpose of this study was to establish the strength of the relationships delineated in the model. The model was tested on 125 …
The Relationship Between Untrained Listener Perceptions And Disordered Voices, Donald S. Finan
The Relationship Between Untrained Listener Perceptions And Disordered Voices, Donald S. Finan
Masters Theses
The ability of trained listeners to make judgments of voice quality has been well documented. This study is designed to investigate untrained listeners' ability to make quality judgments of male and female produced normal, breathy, harsh, and hypernasal voice qualities. Research purposes are as follows:
1. To test if untrained listeners tend to reliably assign specific positive or negative descriptive adjectives according to vocal quality.
2. To determine if specific disordered vocal qualities carry more negative rating than others.
A series of actors and actresses were trained to produce the disordered voice qualities of breathy, harsh, and hypernasal according to …

A Phase Ii Trial Of Murine Monoclonal Antibody 17-1a And Interferon-Γ: Clinical And Immunological Data, Mansoor Saleh, Albert Lobuglio, Richard Wheeler, Kimberly Rogers, Amy Haynes, Jeannette Lee, M B. Khazaeli
Haematology and Oncology, East Africa
A group of 15 patients with metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma received a combination of interferon γ (0.1 mg/m2, days 1–15) and the murine monoclonal antibody 17-1A (400 mg, days 5, 7, 9 and 12). The treatment was tolerated with minimal toxicity. Of the 14 evaluable patients, 13 developed human antibody to murine 17-1A, with 11 patients demonstrating antibody to the variable region of 17-1A (anti-idiotype). Antibody to the variable region was inhibited by 17-1A but not by mouse immunoglobulin. Sera from patients with substantial anti-idiotype reactivity were capable of inhibiting the binding of murine 17-1A to antigen expressing LS174-T …

A Model Of Registered Nurse Intent To Stay In Southern California Childrens' Hospitals, Linda Diann Urden Dnsc, Mn, Rn, Cna
Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to examine the interrelationships of professional image, organizational climate or domains thereof, professional commitment, organizational commitment, position satisfaction, and the influence of these variables on intent to stay employed. The path analytic model of intent to stay was temporally ordered and proposed that professional image and organizational climate affect intent to stay through professional commitment, organizational commitment, and position satisfaction. Subjects (n = 232) were both male and female registered nurses who worked per diem, part-time, or full-time on all shifts. They held clinical positions, delivered direct care, and had been employed in one …

Complex Motor Dynamics And Control In Multi-Looped Negative Feedback Systems, Anne Beuter, John Milton, Christiane Labrie, Leon Glass
WM Keck Science Faculty Papers
Experiments were performed in normal and Parkinsonian subjects who were asked to maintain a constant finger position using time-delayed visual feedback. The finger position showed complex dynamics, with characteristic differences between normal and Parkinosonian subjects. Here we discuss some of the theoretical issues that must be resolved in order to understand the mechanisms that underlie the generation of these complex signals.

The location of the translational termination codon for the transmembrane protein (TMP) varies in three infectious molecular clones of simian immunodeficiency virus from macaques (SIVmac). The SIVmac251 and SIVmac142 infectious clones have premature stop signals that differ in location by one codon; transfection of these DNAs into human HUT-78 cells yielded virus with a truncated TMP (28 to 30 kilodaltons [kDa]). The SIVmac239 infectious clone does not have a premature stop codon in its TMP-coding region. Transfection of HUT-78 cells with this clone initially yielded virus with a full-length TMP (41 kDa). …

Teaching Critical And Creative Thinking Skills As Part Of The Technical Communications Curriculum, Anne Harrington
Teaching Critical And Creative Thinking Skills As Part Of The Technical Communications Curriculum, Anne Harrington
Critical and Creative Thinking Capstones Collection
I incorporated critical thinking instruction in the writing curriculum by using three writing projects: journal writing, a policy paper on AIDS, and an assignment to evaluate grammar checkers. In their journal writing students both generated and evaluated ideas. In the AIDS project, they reinforced these convergent and divergent thinking skills within the context of a real-world issue. For the software project, students practiced thinking skills in an arena that was more technical and objective, but in which they were evaluating fundamental writing criteria. These diverse assignments, based on a philosophically compatible approach to the teaching of writing, helped students develop …
