Presettlement Vegetation And Vegetational Change In Three Valleys In Central Utah, Earl M. Christensen, Hyrum B. Johnson
Brigham Young University Science Bulletin, Biological Series
Historical information, survey records, and relict vegetation were used as sources of data for determining the nature of the presettlement vegetation of Pavant, Round, and Juab Valleys in central Utah. The foothills were covered with bunch grasses (principally Agropyron spicatum and Poa secunda), scattered junipers (Juniperus utahensis), and sagebrush (Artemisia tridentate). Western wheatgrass (Agropyron smithii) was common on level areas within the foothills. Below the foothill region on the more gentle slopes and benchlands there was a broad belt dominated by bunch grasses. The grassy area intergraded into a zone dominated by northern …

The Incidence Of Cancer Of The Cervix In A Selected Group Of Women, Charleene W. Riffel

It was the purpose of this study to find out the incidence of cancer of the cervix in a selected group of Seventh-day Adventist women. This was to be accomplished by an exfoliative cytological survey of smears for cervical cancer and the relation of the incidence found to the age, race, marital status, pregnancy status, geographic origin and endocrine therapy of the participants. These participants were the 2248 women who had cervical and/or vaginal smears made while in San Francisco to attend a religious conference in July of 1962.

The relationship between stress and bony architecture has long been recognized, but the actual cellular machanism which causes the alteration is still somewhat vague. Piezoelectric properties and bioelectric potentials have been proposed as partial answers.
It is the purpose of this investigation to better understand and correlate the relationship of electric potentials or bioelectric potentials to the formation and transformation of physiologic bone.
It is very likely that the crystallites of bone possess the physical properties that would allow them to exhibit the piezoelectric phenomenon.

Three hundred Swiss Webster albino mice three weeks of age were placed on low (8%), medium (24%), high (48%) protein levels and a commercial laboratory animal feed, Purina Chow for various lengths of time: (1) simultaneously with infection, and four weeks thereafter, (2) three weeks before infection and throughout the four-week infection period, and (3) six weeks prior to infection and during the infection period. The protein source was casein. Sixty of the 300 mice used served as noninfected controls, and the other 240 were each infected with 400 washed, suspended Trichinella spiralis larvae obtained from a rat by the …
