Mandibular resting posture is the positional expression of cranial-facial morphology and the myotatic reflex of its contiguous musculature.

Alteration of sensory input to the main sensory, mesencephalic and motor nucleus of the Fifth nerve in a myotalic reflex system, theoretically should result in changes or alteration in motor response.

The purpose of this study was then to examine post interference phenomena as noted by amplitude variations within muscles during centric occlusion and cyclic chewing and to block its expression via mandibular nerve anesthesia.

This study was involved in the selection of recipes for a cookbook. Over a thousand recipes were screened from a much larger number. These recipes were processed by grouping, combining and arranging into a uniform style and format. Many recipes were revised and tested. All recipes were of a lacto-ovo-vegetarian type, free from soda, baking powder and harmful condiments and spices.

Basic ingredient cards were prepared for the IBM computer from tables of food composition. Recipe ingredient cards for each item in the recipes were also prepared. These were programmed into the computer to give the total and per serving …

The purpose of this study was to find out if the procedure developed by the investigator for obtaining midstream urine specimens for culture from adult female outpatients would produce less contamination than the procedure most often used in the selected outpatient department. Following a review of pertinent literature, two relatively equivalent groups of twenty-two adult females with medical or surgical problems were selected. Persons with symptoms of urinary tract infection were excluded from the study. One group was subjected to the control procedure, designated as Procedure A. The propose of this exploratory study was to gather data for analysis on possible predisposing or related factors in the development of neurological com plications following open heart surgery as well as to determine the scope and frequency of symptoms exhibited, indicative of cerebral damage. In addition, the researcher hoped to learn the outcome of these patients through information on the duration and resolution of symptoms, noting type and degree of residual problems as well as the incidence of mortality. The purpose of this study was to identify reactions and adjustments to the altered body image following radical mastectomy. It was felt that nurses could be of more assistance to women facing this experience if they knew and understood the common reactions which occur.

Other studies have indicated that major areas of adjustment focus upon dress and appearance. Sexual and social relationships, and curiosity of others. The disruption of a body image makes necessary certain adjustments in the individual's perceptions of himself.

The Mayo Indian of Sonora, Mexico, was selected for a study of dental morphology. The objectives of the investigation were to determine the extent to which the Mayo conformed to the four criteria of the Mongoloid dental master pattern, and to compare eight other specific tooth morphologic characteristics with like studies on Mongoloid and non-Mongoloid peoples. Plaster casts were made on a sample of forty-one Mayos.

The results of the study indicate that Mayos exhibit a 46 percent frequency of shovel-shape maxillary incisors, classifying "moderate shovel" and "shovel" together. The maxillary central-lateral width difference of 1.5 mm is small compared …

The mechanism of bone deposition and resorption, under stress, is incompletely understood. The direct piezoelectric properties of bone have been suggested as playing an active role in the internal morphology of bone tissue.

This study was designed to fabricate an apparatus and develop a technique to measure, quantitatively, the direct piezoelectric effect of the crystallites of bone.

In vitro studies were done with bone samples taken from bovine femur. The samples were subjected to stress loading and were observed to exhibit a pressure-induced electrical phenomenon. The amplitude of the potentials generated was dependent upon the magnitude of the bony deformation. …

This paper constitutes a terminal report to the United States Atomic Energy Commission for contract AT(11-1)819. It provides not only a faunistic and floristic study of areas having a high and low surface radiation, but also includes a consideration of their general ecology. Major emphasis is placed on the variation of the external characteristics of the small vertebrates of these areas with a statistical analysis of those characters examined in the lizards. Counselors frequently use batteries of psychological tests in helping students to select appropriate educational and occupational choices. The task of interpreting scores on a battery of tests to students is not at any time a simple undertaking. The trend toward emphasis on the importance of the relationship among the various scores in a battery of tests, has further complicated test interpretation.

Vocational choice theories suggest an interrelationship between vocational interests and personality characteristics. Numerous investigators have studied sound communication in animals in recent years. Most of these studies have been on birds, insects, or cetaceans, particularly the dolphin. Most of the studies on terrestrial mammals have been of the natural history type, and the authors have given an orthographic rendition of any sounds produced by that particular species. Few definitive studies have been done. There have been a few attempts to determine cause and function of sounds in mammals (Arvola, lImen, and Koponen, 1962; Bartholomew and Collias, 1962; Rowell and Hinde, 1962; Andrew, 1963).
