This organization is composed of representatives of the General Conference of the church and representatives of various private enterprises. Objectives of medical institutions belonging to this organization include care of the sick, and the improvement of patents' health through education of the patient.

The purpose of this study was to find recorded data on students' records in a selected Seventh-day Adventist church-sponsored secondary school which could be of acceptable value in curriculum improvement in health education.

A survey method of research was chosen with the study of two available records which were: (1) The Medical Examination Records and (2) the Mooney Problem Check List. The Problem: This study was designed to ascertain which of two pre-catheterization cleansing procedures now in common use for the female patient is more effective in producing an area relatively free of microorganisms.

The Need: Indications of need for the study were: (1) an increasing body of literature linking catheterization with frequent urinary tract infections, many of which are "silent" but have extremely serious sequelae; (2) lack of uniformity in defining adequate pre-catheterization cleansing; and (3) absence of any recorded research to determine an adequate cleansing technique.

An experimental study was conducted to find the variations in air temperature which occur within Croupettes during treatment of infants and small children with respiratory infections, and to discover some of the factors which influence change of air temperature. Fifty children, two months to three years of age, all of whom suffered respiratory illness and all of whom received Croupette therapy were included in the study. Data were collected over a test period of two hours and fifteen minutes for each child. The parallel group technique was used in analysis of data. This study was conducted to discover the effects of (1) an interpersonal relationship and (2) an interpersonal relationship and music therapy on preoperative patients in a selected hospital.

The descriptive survey was chosen as the method of study. A checklist and a tape recording of selected music were used as a tool of research. Two groups of preoperative patients were given nursing care by the researcher. Patients in Group One received care with an aim toward developing an interpersonal relationship, while patients in Group Two received the same as Group One with the addition of music therapy.

This study was done for the purpose of analyzing stated factors of deterrence to early antepartum clinic attendance by mothers who attended a selected antepartum care after the twenty-eighth week of pregnancy were selected for this study.

The normative survey was the method chosen for the study and the interview technique was used to obtain the data from the study.

The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether a combination of grade point averages from high school and one year of prescribed courses in a liberal arts college could be used as a tool in the prediction of scholastic success in two selected schools of nursing.

A descriptive survey of grades and test results was done on 121 students from these schools. The nursing school CPA and results from the state board test pool were used as criteria of success. Total GPA's from secondary school and college, and grades in English, science and non-science subjects were the predictors.

It is commonly recognized that hospitalized children need psychological support and preparation for painful procedures. It is probable that little thought is given by hospital personnel to a similar preparation of the child for non-painful procedures. This study attempted to evaluate the distress incurred by children subjected to non-painful hospital procedures with little or no preparation. The procedure of x-ray was selected as being common and typical. The method used was the descriptive survey. The purpose of this study was to find the incidence of medication errors among a group of patients, sixty years of age and over, who were being treated in the outpatient department of a selected urban hospital; and to investigate the effect of certain selected factors on the errors found. It was also planned to compare findings from this study with one done by Schwartz et. al. in New York. The descriptive survey approach employing an interview guide was used.

The relationship between hypothyroidism and reading retardation was investigated among selected elementary school children for the purpose of contributing to data regarding the medical aspects of dyslexia in order to stimulate the interest of school health personnel. The experimental method was used to explore the hypothesis that a significant relationship exists between reading retardation and hypothyroidism.

Sixty-four underachievers in reading enrolled in one elementary school were selected for study. Physical examinations, laboratory tests, and individual psychometric measures were used to evaluate the physical and academic status of each of the study subjects. This study was directed toward an investigation of neonatal mortality of premature infant at a selected hospital. The sample included all premature infants who were born in and died at the selected hospital during the neonatal period between January 01, 1952 and December 31, 1959.

The epidemiological approach was used to study. The purpose of this study was to see what information concerning eight aspects of their health problems was communicated to return patients in the General Medicine Clinic of a part-pay urban outpatient department, and who of the clinic personnel were involved in verbalizing this information.

The specter of addiction eventually involves everyone of the community. It is a three-fold problem of socio-economic, psychological, and physiological factors. The least understood is the physiological or biochemical aspect of addiction.

It has been postulated that an upset in carbohydrate metabolism may be a biochemical cause of addiction. Several avenues were employed to investigate this possible cause of addiction.

  1. A diet survey was conducted and revealed a greater consumption of refined carbohydrates, confections and alcoholic beverages in addicts.

  2. Five-hour oral glucose tolerance tests were performed on 7 addicts and 12 non-addicts. These tests revealed that there were decreased glucose …

A Comparison Of Rectal And Axillary Temperatures On One Hundred Selected Newborn Infants, Marlene Van Puymbrouck

This study was conducted on one hundred full-term normal newborn infants to compare body temperatures as obtained by axilla and rectal measures and to find out which measure recorded the highest temperature. Three time periods of axillary measurement and three time periods of the three depths of rectal measure were considered. The three time periods were (1) one and one-half, (2) three, and (3) five minutes. The three depths of rectal insertion were (1) insertion of the bulb end of the thermometer just beyond the sphincter, (2) 2.5 cm., and (3) 5 cm. into the rectum.
