The Development Of A Comprehensive Health Care Program For Patients With Active Tuberculosis, Grace G. Eddison, Barbara M. Farmer
The Development Of A Comprehensive Health Care Program For Patients With Active Tuberculosis, Grace G. Eddison, Barbara M. Farmer
MCV/Q, Medical College of Virginia Quarterly
Concepts basic to effective medical care evolved from the development of a comprehensive health service program for patients with tuberculosis. The key to success was found in a basic philosophy underlying all interpersonal relationships-the conviction that all men are equal. This philosophy then became the motivating force behind the creation of a functioning multidisciplinary team in which there was developed a freedom of relationships between each team member, and between team members and patients. The effectiveness of this approach in comprehensive medical care was illustrated by examples of special services and programming which were designed to reach all levels of …

A Study Of The Amphetamine Abuser: Personality Characteristics And “Meaning To Life”, Terrence L. Esch
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
This paper will review the literature on amphetamine abuse after which I will discuss some implications for treatment. I will propose an empirical study that should help clarify a major assumption that is apparent in the literature. This study will then point out the possibility of a method of treatment that can be effective in helping amphetamine abusers.
The papers consists of three major themes: (a) Review of the Literature, (b) Implications for treatment, and (c) a proposed empirical study questioning the difference of personality traits and “meaning to life” between amphetamine abusers and youth who are considered to be …

Verbal Accessibility And Authoritarian Family Ideology: A Study Of 50 Graduate Social Work Students And Their Spouses, Linda Louise Metz
Verbal Accessibility And Authoritarian Family Ideology: A Study Of 50 Graduate Social Work Students And Their Spouses, Linda Louise Metz
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis is the fourth in a series of empirical investigations concerned with symbolic interaction in marriage. Its basic assumption is that personal predispositions of marital partners as well as the social context of their marriage influences marital intimacy particularly the partner's readiness to communicate verbally with each other about important attitudes and feelings.
Fifty married graduate students attending Portland State University School of Social Work and their spouses comprised the sample. The subjects responded to three instruments: (1) a personality scale (Authoritarian Family Ideology – AFI) developed by Jane Loevinger, (2) a measure of verbal accessibility (VA), and (3) …
Evaluation Of The Role Of Neighborhood Health Coordinators In A Comprehensive Neighborhood Health Services Project, Sharron Faye Easley
Evaluation Of The Role Of Neighborhood Health Coordinators In A Comprehensive Neighborhood Health Services Project, Sharron Faye Easley
Dissertations and Theses
This study evaluates the role of the Neighborhood Health Coordinators (NHC's) within Kaiser Foundation's Comprehensive Neighborhood Health Services (CNHS) Project. This project was established in September 1967, under the provisions of the 1966 amendments to the Economic Opportunity Act, to provide and make readily available comprehensive medical care to low-income persons. In compliance with the stipulations of this Act, persons who reside in target areas, designated as depressed neighborhoods, were hired to serve as NHC's. These indigenous non-professionals serve as links or "gatekeepers" between the low-income persons enrolled in this program, and the Kaiser medical care facilities which include the …

Art In Psychotherapy, Robert R. Schopbach
Art In Psychotherapy, Robert R. Schopbach
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Art is a tool too often neglected in psychotherapy. A careful study of a patient's drawings will provide information concerning diagnosis, dynamics, and progress. If, in addition, the patient explains and elaborates upon the content and symbolism, the drawings become excellent psychotherapeutic devices providing an entry into the patient's unconscious.

The Background and Purpose of the Study
Introduction
This study is generally concerned with an evaluation of the proficiencies of speech therapists in training. The importance of this area, while obvious, has received little formal recognition in the field of speech pathology. That this topic has not been the concern of more research may be understood when we consider a contemporary and authoritative definition of the word 'therapy'. Colby (5, p. 95) states that therapy is: "...a practical art, a craft like agriculture, or medicine or wine making in which an artisan relies on an incomplete, fragmentary of knowledge and …

Needle Length Required For Intramuscular Injection In Women, Olive Vaughan Blumenshein
Needle Length Required For Intramuscular Injection In Women, Olive Vaughan Blumenshein
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
An exploratory study was done on fourteen females to find the depth of the subcutaneous tissue and the length of needle required to reach the musculature. Gross body measurements were correlated with the internal measurements to develop criteria predicting the depth on other individuals. Review of the literature showed that most authorities recommend two to two and one-half inch needles, while available disposable needles range from one-half to one and one-half inches in length. A pilot study of measurements taken on postmortem subjects was reported as unsatisfactory. The electrocardiograph with coaxial needle electrode was demonstrated to be a very accurate …

The Image Of The Public Health Nurse As Seen By The Medically Indigent Prenatal Patient, Arlene Parrish Gray, Corlene Waddell Lambeth
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The purpose of this study was to ascertain the image of the public health nurse as seen by the medically indigent prenatal patient who has had a public health nursing visit in the home. With this knowledge, she could plan a more effective approach, provide better services, and be better prepared to meet the needs of the prenatal patient. This study was aimed to explore the patients' concepts of the public health nurse's personal characteristics, her functions, and comparison of her image with other helping professions and to identify influencing factors affecting image formation. The exploratory approach was used and …
A Systematic Approach To The Evaluation And Treatment Of Marital Problems, George Kriegman
A Systematic Approach To The Evaluation And Treatment Of Marital Problems, George Kriegman
MCV/Q, Medical College of Virginia Quarterly
The collaboration of two persons of the opposite sex is a part of the natural sequence of human development and involves the integration of psychodynamic factors and group dynamics. Marriage can be classified into three general types: harmonious, adjusted, and disharmonious. The disharmonious group is classified according to the predominant security operations of the spouse into seven categories. The group dynamics are presented in terms of role functions following Spiegel's (1957) classification of role discrepancies and role resolution, emphasizing the concepts of complementarity and equilibration. The diagnostic evaluation of the personality structure is outlined in terms of the operative level …

The Problem and Its Background
Introduction
Over the past several decades there has been increasing interest in the occupational choices of men and women, and the interests and attitudes associated with various professional groups. Since occupations are becoming increasingly more specialized, employers and educators have found that those people who perform best in the position of their choice are those who exhibit certain interests and attitudes with regard to their occupation. Colleges emphasize the necessity of counseling in order to enable students to effectively choose general areas of concentration. The fields of study chosen by students are a …
