The Adjustment Of Eighty Correspondence Club Members As Indicated By Two Adjustment Inventories, Maurice R. Seaquist

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

It is the purpose of the present thesis to determine the adjustment of a sampling of correspondence club members. The hypothesis is that the social adjustment of these individuals is inferior to that of the individuals used in two personality inventories. In addition, answers to these questions are sought:

  1. Is there a common need or problem that motivates these men and women to seek companionship through correspondence agencies?
  2. What is their age, sex, cultural and geographical background?
  3. What are the physical qualities and economic status of the members and what qualities and status are they seeking in the members they …

Basic Basketball, Don J. Odle Jan 1950

Basic Basketball, Don J. Odle

Ayres Special Collection

This book is written with the intention that it may be of some help to a group of men who are dealing with our most valuable possession...our youth. It is by no means written with the idea that it represents an exhaustive book of reference. It is therefore just the compilation of a few ideas that have been formulated in the author's mind for the past several years as a player and a coach.

This book is dedicated to a group of young men who meet every Monday night to thank God for the opportunities that they have in athletics …

The Rorschach Test With Children From Two To Six Years Old, Richard H. Dana Jan 1950

The Rorschach Test With Children From Two To Six Years Old, Richard H. Dana

Regional Research Institute for Human Services

The development of the ink-blot as a psychological tool has taken a thousand years. The Rorschach, a formal clinical representative of this heritage, is a product of this "testing age" and has been extensively used with children. This has necessitated certain modifications of procedure and analysis which have been achieved by more or less intuitive, non-systematic methods. The most pertinent questions concerning the Rorschach test with adults also apply to children. These questions include the merry-go-round of scoring possibilities: "Clinical", intuitive; objective and in terms of formal categories; psychometric, utilizing a vast number of rating scales.

Rejection: Some Causes, Symptoms, And Treatment, H. E. Andren Jan 1949

Rejection: Some Causes, Symptoms, And Treatment, H. E. Andren

Medical Arts and Sciences: A Scientific Journal of the College of Medical Evangelists

One of the many causes of personality problems is the feeling of rejection. It may result in the individual's becoming hypersensitive, resentful, or demanding, particularly if this experience has occurred in the impressionable age of youth. It is my purpose in this paper to set forth some of the symptoms and responses that occur in the individual who has this feeling, and what avenues are open in the treatment of such maladjusted individuals.

An Experimental Investigation Of Speech Therapy For The Hard-Of-Hearing Pre-School Child, Florence Beatrice Hubbard Jan 1949

An Experimental Investigation Of Speech Therapy For The Hard-Of-Hearing Pre-School Child, Florence Beatrice Hubbard

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

It was the purpose of this experimental investigation: (1) to find some type of amplifying unit (a) that would be small enough to allow the parents of young children, and the child himsel, as he grew older, to carry from the home to the class room and back home again, (b) that had extremely high fidelity to insure the hard-of-hearing child the opportunity to learn tonal qualities, (c) that lacked static and high-frequency squeal which so often is found in the small portable hearing aids, (d) that had the volume capacity great enough to allow these hard-of-hearing children to use …

An Experimental Study Of The Effect Of Caffeine Upon Athletic Performance, Roger Youngdal Baer Jan 1949

An Experimental Study Of The Effect Of Caffeine Upon Athletic Performance, Roger Youngdal Baer

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The improvement of physical performance has long been a problem of great importance to athletes, coaches, and physical educators. Many different methods and techniques of coaching, conditioning, and motivation have been utilized in an effort to push the participant to his top or ultimate performance.

There is much conjecture as to whether this optimum or top level of performance can be raised by artificial stimulation after peak condition has been reached and the skills involved in the performance have been mastered. According to Boke, stimulants are widely used today by athletes in all types of competition. He groups the substances …

The Neuropsychiatric Factor In Allergic Disease, Norman Shure, M Coleman Harris Oct 1948

The Neuropsychiatric Factor In Allergic Disease, Norman Shure, M Coleman Harris

Medical Arts and Sciences: A Scientific Journal of the College of Medical Evangelists

A concept of the causation of allergic disease herewith is presented in which, in addition to the allergic factors, emotional states and psychic stimuli are introduced as integral parts of every case. The adoption of the terms "intrinsic" for the neuropsychiatric factors and "extrinsic" for the organic factors in the production of allergic disease is suggested.
