Educating Labor And Delivery Nurses On Evidence-Based Birthing Positions To Promote Fetal Descent During First And Second Stage Labor, Sophia Nguyen
Educating Labor And Delivery Nurses On Evidence-Based Birthing Positions To Promote Fetal Descent During First And Second Stage Labor, Sophia Nguyen
Master's Projects and Capstones
The goal of this project was to increase confidence of labor and delivery nurses in utilizing evidence-supported birth positions during the first and second stages of labor in order to aid in fetal descent and labor progression. Current statistics demonstrate climbing trends in cesarean deliveries, which have been associated with increased maternal morbidity and mortality. One nurse intervention that can reduce failure to progress, a main contributor to cesarean sections, is the use of various evidence-supported maternal birth positions such as ambulation, assisted squat, sitting, backwards sitting, lunging, throne, side-lying with peanut ball, hands-and-knees, and throne position. This evidence-based practice …
Increasing Compliance Through Nurse Education On The Bundle, Zachary Harrison-Evans
Increasing Compliance Through Nurse Education On The Bundle, Zachary Harrison-Evans
Master's Projects and Capstones
In an effort to decrease complications and events connected to sepsis in the ED, there is room for improvement with relation to sepsis care and compliance rates. Timely sepsis management and gains in compliance/adherence rates are hindered by SEP-1 fallouts and requirements related to knowledge gaps concerning sepsis bundle procedures, nurses' attitudes about implementing the protocols, and disparities in nurse/physician order sets. It has been determined that the use of standardized protocols and order sets are not being utilized. This is a process gap and a critical area for improvement. Inadequate fluid and lactate documentation, a lack of education, and …
Experiences Of People With Serious Mental Illness Seeking Services At Community Mental Health Centers During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Emily Leickly
Experiences Of People With Serious Mental Illness Seeking Services At Community Mental Health Centers During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Emily Leickly
Dissertations and Theses
Community mental health centers (CMHCs) have been underfunded and overburdened since Reagan-era disinvestment and the United States' move toward neoliberalism. Rates of mental illness have been rising consistently, particularly in Oregon, as CMHCs face continuing financial pressures and staff retention issues. This was before the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, we are still trying to understand the ongoing pandemic's impact on people with serious mental illnesses (SMI). Most of the studies in this area thus far are quantitative, and first-hand accounts of the pandemic from people with SMI are largely absent. Additionally, research in this area fails to draw on critical alternative …

Indigenous Health Faculty Publications
The adoption of tele-mental health by mental health professionals has been slow, especially in rural areas. Prior to 2020, less than half of mental health agencies offered tele-mental health for patients. In response to the global health pandemic in March of 2020, mental health therapists across the U.S. were challenged to make the rapid shift to tele-mental health to provide patient care. Given the lack of adoption of tele-mental health previously, immediate training in tele-mental health was needed. This article describes collaborative efforts between two mental health technology transfer centers and one addiction technology transfer center in rural regions of …

Tranexamic Acid Protocol For Lower Extremity Total Joint Arthroplasties, Autumn Cullison
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Abstract
Bleeding is a risk associated with surgery, and complications, such as hypotension, anemia, and decreased oxygen-carrying capacity, can occur. Blood transfusions have been the mainstay treatment for excessive surgical blood loss; however, transfusion has associated risks including infection, volume overload, immunological reactions, and increased morbidity and mortality (Sahu et al., 2014). Interventions to decrease surgical blood loss are essential components to improving surgical outcomes. The antithrombolytic, tranexamic acid (TXA), decreases surgical blood loss and blood transfusion requirements, thereby decreasing transfusion-related complications (Gausden et al., 2017). Despite frequent use, variance exists surrounding the administration of TXA. Current evidence and guidelines …
