An Implementation Of Combined Fecal/Gastric Occult Blood Testing In The Emergency Department, Desiree Long
An Implementation Of Combined Fecal/Gastric Occult Blood Testing In The Emergency Department, Desiree Long
Master's Projects and Capstones
Problem: The gastrointestinal occult blood test is a point-of-care (POC) test used to detect the presence of occult (hidden) gastrointestinal bleeding via stool or gastric contents. Existing fecal and gastric occult blood point-of-care (POC) testing requires separate and unique sampling cards and developer, respectively. Separate fecal/gastric tests are less definitive and take longer than a combined test. Fecal/gastric testing can be improved and more effective using a combined testing mechanism.
Context: This project includes the microsystem of the emergency department, which involves groups of medical professionals, such as groups of clinicians and staff working together with a shared clinical goal …

The Relationship Between Nurse Professional Development Practitioners’ Perceptions Of Empowerment In The Workplace And Intent To Stay Post Covid-19 Pandemic, Tashiana Roberts-Jackson
Nursing Dissertations - Archive
Nurse Professional Development (NPD) practitioners in the acute care hospital setting are often undervalued despite their crucial role. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they demonstrated adaptability by rapidly transitioning to virtual formats for onboarding nursing staff, while also shouldering the responsibility of ensuring staff competency in caring for COVID-19 patients. Additionally, NPD practitioners faced heavy workloads, having to retrain nursing staff who worked in indirect patient care roles, while also filling in during critical staffing shortages. To date, no studies have been found that explored key factors that predict intent to stay in the NPD practitioner population pre- or post-pandemic. Thereby, …

Communication deficiencies were identified among baccalaureate nursing students at South College in Nashville, TN, necessitating changes needing to be made in the nursing curricula. To address the flaws, the quality improvement project proposed implementing changes in clinical assignments during clinical rotations in medical-surgical nursing courses. The project manager discussed the purpose and usage of the SBAR tool, and the students then demonstrated the use of the tool. The clinical faculty rated the students using an eight-question Likert survey to assess the students’ confidence and competency three times; the first assessment at the end of the shift without guidance from their …
Physician Assistants And Emergency Department Metrics In Australia, Benjamin Zeid
Physician Assistants And Emergency Department Metrics In Australia, Benjamin Zeid
Yale School of Medicine Physician Associate Program Theses
Australian Emergency Departments (EDs) suffer from growing demand leading to increased wait times and length of stay for patients which are correlated with worse outcomes. Physician Assistants/Associates (PAs) have improved patient wait times and length of stay (LOS) in EDs of several countries. The PA role is relatively new to Australia and the effect of PA integration on wait time and LOS for ED patient encounters is unknown. In this study, we will conduct a single center retrospective secondary analysis of health records and hospital data between January and July 2019 of patients treated at the Townsville University Hospital ED …

The Evolution Of Leadership During The Covid-19 Pandemic: An Analysis Of The Research, Luca Patrick Thierry Gregston
University Honors Theses
This paper's research question, "How has the COVID-19 pandemic changed the concept and practice of leadership? In the end much of the empirical evidence for what COVID-19 did or didn't change in leadership practices is still relatively ambiguous. So it is too early to say that "business as usual" is gone for good. And COVID furthered and deepened long term trends, accelerating the great resignation and a dramatic revaluation of intangible assets like reputation, intellectual property and human capital. In response, there is a clear need for a new leadership mindset for the 21st century after the COVID pandemic.
