Studies On Uveitis Part I: Aqueous Studies, Philip C. Hessburg
Studies On Uveitis Part I: Aqueous Studies, Philip C. Hessburg
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Aqueous microbiological and cytological studies were performed on 134 anterior chamber taps done on 118 patients both with and without uveitis. Cell wall defective bacterial forms (CWDF) were recovered from about 40% of these aqueous specimens and classical bacteria were recovered from 12%. A statistically significant difference could not be found between the incidence of bacterial cell wall defective forms in the various anatomical types of uveitis. There were hints from this work that the presence of CWDF In the aqueous was more frequent in younger patients with uveitis, early in the uveitis attack, if there were multiple foci of …

In recent years, many dramatic changes have occurred in the nation's health care delivery system, particularly in health education. The National Consumer Health Information and Promotion Act was enacted in 1976. In response to this legislation, the nation's health education efforts were greatly expanded through the creation of a Bureau of Health Education within the Center for Disease Control and establishment of the Office of Health Information and Promotion in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, Department of Health, Education and Welfare. A National Center for Health Education was also established. Health education was prominently included among the …

The Role Of A Medical Audit In Assessing The Quality Of Health Care At A Community Health Center, James C. Overton
Theses
The thesis, The Role of a Medical Audit in Assessing the Quality of Health Care at a Community Health Center, by James C. Overton, examines how formalized medical audits improve healthcare delivery in community health settings. It highlights the challenges administrators face in assessing and improving care due to inadequate data and informal evaluation structures. The study hypothesizes that implementing a systematic medical audit procedure enhances the quality of care and provides actionable insights for administrators.
The research focuses on two prevalent chronic conditions, hypertension and diabetes mellitus, assessing pre- and post-intervention care quality. Using criteria-based models, the study …

Depression And Non-Responsive Behavior Displayed By Low Socio-Economic Latino Mothers In An Urban Child And Youth Clinic, Raquél María Aguayo
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
During the researcher's experience as a public health nurse, she became aware of two types of depressed women. Non-responsive behavior Is defined as an inability to utilize clinic services appropriately for health by exhibiting …
Stressor Effects Of High Relative Humidity And A High Moisture Diet On Appearance Of Disease From Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus In Larvae Of Porthetria Dispar (L.), Pauline Thomas
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
High relative humidity (R.H.) and a high moisture diet were tested as stressors in the incidence of nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) disease of larvae of Porthetria dispar (L.). Relative humidity was shown to have no effect on the appearance of NPV disease in larvae reared in the laboratory. However, a high mortality from other causes was sustained by a group of larvae subjected to both high R.H. and a high moisture diet. The absence of NPV disease during the first larval instar period confirmed earlier findings that effective egg sanitization virtually eliminates NPV disease. This supports current disfavor with the …
Examination Of The Effect Of Age, Education, Parity, Pregravid Weight, Pregnancy Weight Gain, And County Of Residence On Incidence Of Low Birth Weight Infants In Utah And Nevada, Marsha H. Read
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
One of the primary purposes of the investigation was to examine the impact of a number of variables on the incidence of low birth weight in two states, Utah and Nevada, that have divergent low birth weight incidences. The sample size obtained from birth certificate data for this purpose was 51,147 (1969-1974) for Nevada and 26,464 (1970) and 29,422 (1974) for Utah. Additionally, separate analyses were made for Utah and Nevada data available for the year 1974. The respective sample sizes for this year were 29,422 (Utah) and 8,256 (Nevada). Least squares analysis indicated sex of the infant, race of …

The Effect Of Seed Sprouting Time And Light On Phytic Acid Concentration, Sheryl J. Learned
The Effect Of Seed Sprouting Time And Light On Phytic Acid Concentration, Sheryl J. Learned
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Phytic acid was quantitatively analyzed in sprouted alfalfa, lentil, mung bean and soy bean seeds. Pulverized dry seeds served as a control and the various sprouting times were 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours after a 12 hour soaking. A comparison was made between sprouts grown in the light for the last 24 hours vs sprouts kept in darkened areas for the total growing time.
Analysis was based on dry weight and utilized the direct method in which 1) phytic acid was extracted by hot HC1, 2) ferric phytate was precipitated by adding an excess of ferric chloride to the …
