The Current Status Of Multi-Modality Imaging Of Pulmonary Emboli, Rodney C. Fisher, Kimberly L. Onstott
The Current Status Of Multi-Modality Imaging Of Pulmonary Emboli, Rodney C. Fisher, Kimberly L. Onstott
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Background: Pulmonary emboli (PE) have a significant incident rate of 112.3 per 100,000 adults. When age-weighted, the population over 75 has an incident rate of 1 out of 100. 90% of deaths from acute cases occur within two hours of the onset of symptoms. In pregnancy-related deaths, 20% are attributed to PE, and pregnancy increases the risk of the development of PE by 400 – 600%. Significant risk factors for PE include COPD, obesity, recent trauma or surgery, a history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a history of hormonal therapy, smoking, and pregnancy. Purpose: This literature review discusses how PE …

Background
Obesity is a chronic medical condition with a rising prevalence in the United States. A wide range of morbidity and mortality is associated with obesity, with coronary artery disease being among the most common. Ischemic heart disease continues to be the primary cause of death in the United States. Taken together, interventions to minimize the detrimental effects of obesity on patients at risk of heart disease will not only benefit the patient, but the health care system as well.
Methods
In this retrospective study, we used the HCA Healthcare enterprise data warehouse to identify all adult patients who were …

The Relationship Between Fast Food Consumption And Physical Activity With Primary Dysmenorrhea In Adolescents, Wahyuni Wahyuni
Jurnal Vokasi Indonesia
Background: Menstruation is a bleeding event that occurs when the inner lining of the uterus, known as the endometrium, sheds. Dysmenorrhea is one of the symptoms that teenage girls often feel during menstruation. Dysmenorrhea can affect women's comfort and quality of life. There are two types of dysmenorrhoea, namely primary dysmenorrhea and secondary dysmenorrhoea. Primary dysmenorrhoea refers to the condition of menstrual pain that adolescent girls often experience, with a prevalence rate of 60-90%. Risk factors for primary dysmenorrhoea are influenced by several factors, including fast food intake, physical activity level, stress level, age at first menstruation (menarche), and nutritional …

Bilateral Patellar Tendon Rupture: Obesity As A Risk Factor, Alyssa Ison, Adam Sigal Md, Gary Canner Md
Transformative Medicine
Introduction
Bilateral patellar tendon rupture is an uncommon presentation in the Emergency Department but can occur in the setting of certain risk factors. Obesity is an independent predisposing condition in which early identification can expedite diagnosis and treatment.
Case Description
We report a case of bilateral patellar tendon rupture in a young male with obesity as the sole risk factor following a low-energy trauma. The patient ruptured his bilateral patellar tendons while jumping up during a basketball game. The diagnosis was made on exam and confirmed with plain radiographs and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Because of the bilateral involvement and inability …

Introduction. Despite its high prevalence and significant impact on health, comprehensive studies are still needed to explore the factors affecting sarcopenia parameters, such as muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical performance. This study aimed to identify the factors influencing sarcopenia parameters in the elderly, including muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical performance.
Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted from July to December 2022 on elderly individuals (>60 years old) at the Geriatric Polyclinic, Moh. Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang, selected through consecutive sampling. Muscle mass was measured using bioimpedance analysis, expressed in ASMI values; muscle strength was measured …

Introduction. Although mortality among adult chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients on regular hemodialysis remains infrequent within the first three months, it is still a potential outcome. Given that hemodialysis is required for life, identifying risk factors for mortality is critical. This study aims to examine risk factors associated with mortality in adult CKD patients undergoing regular hemodialysis.
Methods. A case-control study, without matching, was conducted using medical record data from adult CKD patients (≥18 years) receiving regular hemodialysis between 2022 and 2024 at three hospitals (types A, B, and C) in Lampung Province. The case group consisted of …

Introduction. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is associated with higher mortality rate in COVID-19 patients due to inflammation and immune dysregulation. This study aimed to correlate serum levels of IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-α with serum creatinine changes and their roles to predict incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with moderate and severe COVID-19.
Methods. This prospective cohort study was conducted among patients with moderate to severe COVID-19 in Pertamina Central Hospital Jakarta, Indonesia during November 2020 to January 2021. All serum levels of cytokines (IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-α) and creatinine were collected on the first day and …

Refeeding syndrome is a different clinical symptom and metabolic disorder that occur during the reintroduction of nutrition in chronically malnourished patients. Calorie restriction can increase survival and reduce mortality rates. This evidence-based case report was developed to examine the influence of caloric restriction on mortality, morbidity, and duration of critical illness. A literature search was performed using PubMed, EBSCOHost, ScienceDirect, and Cochrane with the keywords: “critically ill,” “restricted caloric intake,” “standard caloric intake,” “mortality,” “morbidity,” and “duration”. Articles were appraised using the University of Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (CEBM) tools. Two studies met the inclusion criteria. The first was …

ABSTRACT:
Background:
The transition from adolescence to adulthood is often accompanied by significant lifestyle changes, including changes in dietary habits, physical activity levels, and stress, which can contribute to unhealthy weight gain. In India, the prevalence of overweight and obesity among youth has shown an upward trend, raising concerns about early onset of non-communicable diseases. This study aims to assess the prevalence of overweight and obesity among degree college students in Mysuru and to identify the associated socio-demographic and lifestyle factors contributing to these conditions.
Methodology:
A cross-sectional study was conducted over three months, from January to March 2025, among …

Background: Diarrhea is an infectious disease with the third highest mortality rate in children under 5 years of age globally. The Indonesian Ministry of Health states that 88% of deaths from diarrhea in children are caused by poor sanitation practices and inadequate quality of drinking water sources. This study aims to describe the distribution of the quality of drinking water sources and the prevalence of diarrhea in all provinces in Indonesia. Methods: This study used an ecological study approach with secondary aggregate data from Survei Kesehatan Indonesia (SKI) 2023 and Studi Kualitas Air Minum Rumah Tangga (SKAM RT) 2020. The …

High quality anthropometric measurements are important for nutritional assessment in children. In Indonesia, anthropometric measurement of children performed by caders in child center called posyandu as a child growth monitoring. However error measurements are found, especially on length or height measurement of children affecting presision and accuracy of data. This will lead to misinterpretation of child nutrition status. Education and training for cadres using media are important to improve their knowledge and skill related to anthropometric measurements. This study aimed to assess the effect of anthropometry measurement training using videos on Cadre’s knowledge. This study used one group pre-post test …
