Primiparae's Identification Of Critical Incidents During First Postpartum Month And Their Evaluations Of Subsequent Nursing Intervention, Jane M. Erwin Jan 1969

Primiparae's Identification Of Critical Incidents During First Postpartum Month And Their Evaluations Of Subsequent Nursing Intervention, Jane M. Erwin

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate (1) what physical care critical incidents primiparae experience while providing mother-infant care during the first postpartum month and (2) what evaluations mothers give to nursing intervention applied to such critical incidents.

Six mothers who met the criteria of selection were visited four or five times. The first visit was made in the hospital to obtain background information of the mother's preparation for maternal and infant care. The second through the fourth visits were made in the home in order to record physical care critical incidents that they ex perienced while caring …

Studies On The Localization And Retention Of Tetracycline Hydrochloride In Ehrlich Ascites Cells, Dale William James Jan 1969

Studies On The Localization And Retention Of Tetracycline Hydrochloride In Ehrlich Ascites Cells, Dale William James

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The antibiotics have become so widely and successfully used in the practice of medicine that they are now considered to be essential. Among the antibiotics, the tetracycline group has achieved an enviable reputation for dependable medication, In spite of this, there remain several unanswered questions, One of these pertains to the interesting phenomenon for almost selective localization of tetracycline in certain tumor cells or masses, Although there have been numerous publications dealing with this phenomenon, as the following paragraphs will indicate, there is little agreement as to the factors involved. Indeed, there are some sharply conflicting opinions.

The investigations described …

Inhibition Of Cell Division, Protein Synthesis And Nucleic Acid Synthesis In Escherichia Coli W By Tetracycline Antibiotics, George Henry Miller Jan 1969

Inhibition Of Cell Division, Protein Synthesis And Nucleic Acid Synthesis In Escherichia Coli W By Tetracycline Antibiotics, George Henry Miller

Theses and Dissertations

Tetracyclines, originally isolated in the late 1940's and early 1950's from the mycelium of Streptomyces, have achieved major importance as therapeutic and prophylactic agents against a wide range of infections in human and veterinary medicine. They have also achieved great importance in agriculture where they are widely used to promote weight gain in livestock. Commercial production, during 1958 in the United States alone was 120 tons with a value of approximately $1 million per ton.

The clinical importance of these compounds has stimulated efforts to define their mode of action as inhibitors of bacterial reproduction. Antibiotics having as many functional …

A Comparison Of The Fluidized Bed Drying Technique With Conventional Methods Of Drying Tablet Granulations, Kit Michael Mills Jan 1969

A Comparison Of The Fluidized Bed Drying Technique With Conventional Methods Of Drying Tablet Granulations, Kit Michael Mills

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Drying procedures, like other important unit operations in pharmacy, have received little attention in pharmaceutical literature. Within recent years, however, growing interest in these pharmaceutical engineering areas has become apparent.

Fluidization operations, although relatively unexplored in pharmacy, have been firmly established on a broad scale in other industries. Fluidization may be defined as the suspension and agitation of a bed of particulate solids by a vertically rising stream of gas. Each suspended particle is surrounded by the gas. This relative velocity of the gas and solid particles is high, although the gas velocity itself is relatively low. Heat is transferred …

Simple Methods For Detection Of Bacteriuria In The Physician's Office, E. G. Heinze Jr., A. Hodari, T. Connolly, D. Jones, F. Cox, E. L. Quinn

Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal

Two simplified quantitative urine culture techniques, suitable for use in the physician's office, were shown to be reliable and practical. The miniature culture method (Testuria) and flood-plate technique gave comparable quantitative results, and the latter also yielded prompt information of organism specificity which was helpful in judging the significance of the culture findings.

Teacher's Attitudes And Teacher's And Student's Knowledge Of Alcohol And Alcoholism In Selected Utah High Schools, Ladawn Anderson Gibbons May 1968

Teacher's Attitudes And Teacher's And Student's Knowledge Of Alcohol And Alcoholism In Selected Utah High Schools, Ladawn Anderson Gibbons

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

A comparison of teacher's attitudes and teacher's and student's knowledge of alcohol and alcoholism were studied in nine selected high schools in Utah.

It was found that some teachers knew important positive facts about alcohol and alcoholism, but when personal obligations were written into "attitude" questions, their responses changed.

Some health and driver education teachers were poorly informed on the subject of alcohol and alcoholism. Some important facts known by teachers were either being deleted from instruction on alcohol or not being communicated very well.

In some schools it appears that students are learning about alcohol and alcoholism from other …

Contamination Of Stuffed Cloth Toys On A Pediatric Unit, Virginia Lois Fowler, Dynnette Nelson Hart May 1968

Contamination Of Stuffed Cloth Toys On A Pediatric Unit, Virginia Lois Fowler, Dynnette Nelson Hart

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The purpose of the study was to determine if cloth stuffed toys used by children in the pediatric unit of Loma Linda University Hospital carry microbacterial pathogens that are the same type as those pathogens found in the throat of the child using the toy. A second purpose was to determine how long the selected pathogens, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Diplococcus pneumonia, survive on the same cloth toys as used in the selected hospital. Throat cultures were taken of twenty-four patients and each patient was given a cloth stuffed toy selected to be studied. Cultures of the toys were …
