The Development Of Electrophysiological Techniques Allowing "In Situ" Measurement Of Electrical Changes Within Smooth Muscle Cells Of Mesenteric Micro-Vessels, William J. Willems May 1970

The Development Of Electrophysiological Techniques Allowing "In Situ" Measurement Of Electrical Changes Within Smooth Muscle Cells Of Mesenteric Micro-Vessels, William J. Willems

Master's Essays (1922 - )

The primary objective or this study is essentially to acquire further knowledge of the factors involved in the nervous and humoral control of vascular smooth muscle tone. The relative importance of the nervous and endogenous vasotropic humoral control or vasomotor tone under normal conditions as well as under conditions or hypotension can be evaluated, at least in part, by observing the electrical activity occurring in single vascular smooth muscle cells of the mesenteric microcirculation. This thesis describes: 1) the development of electrophysiological methods for the measurement of such activity in ''in situ" micro-vessels with circulation and innervation intact, and 2) …

Organick, Avrum B. (Marquette University School of Medicine, Milwaukee, Wis.), Kenneth A. Siegesmund, and Irving I. Lutsky. Pneumonia due to mycoplasma in gnotobiotic mice. II. Localization of Mycoplasma pulmonis in the lungs of infected gnotobiotic mice by electron microscopy. J. Bacteriol. 92:1164–1176. 1966.—Lesions in lungs of gnotobiotic mice inoculated intranasally with Mycoplasma pulmonis were examined by electron microscopy after osmic acid fixation. At 1 week after infection, mycoplasma cells were found in large numbers in the bronchi at the surface of bronchial epithelial cells and, in smaller numbers, in the alveoli where active phagocytosis by polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) occurred. …

Quantitative Sugar Estimations In Pleural Fluid - An Aid To Diagnosis, John E. Peterson Oct 1948

Quantitative Sugar Estimations In Pleural Fluid - An Aid To Diagnosis, John E. Peterson

Medical Arts and Sciences: A Scientific Journal of the College of Medical Evangelists

In a study of 33 cases of serous effusion it would appear that determination of the sugar content of the pleural fluid may provide an early clue to the etiologic diagnosis.

The Corn-Stalk Disease In Cattle, Frank S. Billings Sep 1889

The Corn-Stalk Disease In Cattle, Frank S. Billings

School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences: Faculty Publications

MORPHO-BIOLOGICAL CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN TWO OR MORE MICRO- ETIOLOGICAL ORGANISMS NOT SUFFICIENT GROUNDS FOR PRONOUNCING THE DISEASES WITH WHICH THEY ARE CONNECTED IDENTICAL. The details of this discussion will be found in my report on the swine-plague. It is necessary, however, to touch upon the essential points here also. As was there shown, Hueppe asserts that the European diseases previously mentioned as being caused by a member of this group of belted, ovoid germs, viz., the “ Huhne Cholera, Kaninchen Septikasmie, und Wild Seuche ’ ’ are all one and the same disease, because their micro-etiological organisms have the same form, …
