Development Of A Test For Rapid Determination Of Octane Ratings Of Gasolines, Charles B. Gangwer
Development Of A Test For Rapid Determination Of Octane Ratings Of Gasolines, Charles B. Gangwer
Mechanical Engineering ETDs
For many years, the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of New Mexico has been interested in developing a more reliable and expedient method to determine octane readings of gasolines than the conventional CFR Motor Method of Test for Knock Characteristics of Motor Fuels. A summary of the development of the conventional CFR Test method and a brief discussion of the operational procedure of this method is necessary to better understand the need for a new fuel rating procedure. To further explain the disadvantages of the conventional test method, an introduction to the new test method to be developed will …

The Design, Construction, And Calibration Of A Stationary Wave Device For Determining Sound Absorption Coefficients Of Acoustic Materials, Douglas W. Ballard
The Design, Construction, And Calibration Of A Stationary Wave Device For Determining Sound Absorption Coefficients Of Acoustic Materials, Douglas W. Ballard
Mechanical Engineering ETDs
The general scope of the thesis investigation is limited to the engineering design and construction of a stationary-wave device for the experimental determination of the sound absorption coefficients of various building materials, the calibration of the apparatus to give comparisons with results obtained in the more expensive reverberation method, and to attempt to correlate observed results with generally accepted acoustical standards.
Development Of Electro-Mechanical Equipment For The Measurement Of Knock Characteristics Of Gasolines, Rudolph W. Ebacher
Development Of Electro-Mechanical Equipment For The Measurement Of Knock Characteristics Of Gasolines, Rudolph W. Ebacher
Mechanical Engineering ETDs
It was considered by the writer that characteristics of oscilloscope wave forms representing the varying pressures taking place in the CFR engine cylinder might provide an index to octane ratings of gasoline. Obtaining pressure wave forms on the oscilloscope required some medium for providing an electrical signal in response to engine cylinder pressures. A quartz pressure element was considered as the item that could fulfill this requirement.

EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT: John Deere 60
TEST A: The manufacturer's representative operates the tractor for a minimum of 12 hours using light to heavy drawbar loads in each gear.
This serves as a period for limber up, general observation and adjustments. Adjustments that are permissible include valve tappet clearance, breaker ,point gap, spark plug gaps, clutch and others of a similar nature. No new parts or accessories can be installed without having mention made of it in the report. No data' are recorded during this preliminary run except the time that the engine is operated.

The Effect Of Various Binders And Moisture Content On The Apparent Thermal Conductivity Of Green Foundry Sand, Robert V. Wolf
The Effect Of Various Binders And Moisture Content On The Apparent Thermal Conductivity Of Green Foundry Sand, Robert V. Wolf
Masters Theses
"The broad field of heat transfer is well developed in its theory and mathematics, however, some few applications of varying heat transfer rates have been explored only recently.
Previous to the nineteen-thirties, foundrymen had apparently been interested in heat transfer measurements only from the standpoint of the melting of metals and the heat treatment of the finished castings, with the rate of solidification and the transfer of heat from the casting through the mold being ignored, or at least accepted as an uncontrollable factor. This does not apply, of course, to the use of metal chills to adjust solidification rates …
Photoelastic Investigation Of Notched Corners In Square Apertures In Flat Plates Subjected To Tension, Lloyd E. Byrd Jr.
Photoelastic Investigation Of Notched Corners In Square Apertures In Flat Plates Subjected To Tension, Lloyd E. Byrd Jr.
Masters Theses
"Photoelastic stress analysis is one of the most effective methods available to the engineer for solving problems of stress distribution. The effect of forces, such as pressure and tension may be studied using a scale model of a structural part. Special transparent models are subjected to forces proportional to those acting on the real object. The stress problem produced in the model indicates the stress distribution through a cross-section of the structural part.
Analysis of the photographic record of the stress analysis pattern provides data with a high degree of accuracy within a relatively short time. In simple cases, this …

An Investigation Of The Comparative Effects Of Several Fill Materials On Heat Losses In The Ground From A Radiant Floor Panel, Peter H. Benedict
An Investigation Of The Comparative Effects Of Several Fill Materials On Heat Losses In The Ground From A Radiant Floor Panel, Peter H. Benedict
Mechanical Engineering ETDs
It was the purpose of this investigation to compare the amounts of heat lost into the ground and through the foundation walls of a small test cubicle heated by means of a radiant floor panel when the fill material under the floor slab consisted of either crushed stone, pumice aggregate, or dry-compacted soil.

This report and any related files are made available to the online through the Lester F. Larsen Tractor Test and Power Museum as resources allow. Established in 1998, this museum is located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus. It is and appropriately housed within the walls of the historic 1920 Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory, where the first tractor test was started on March 31st, 1920. Because the pioneer tests became worldwide standards, this location was designated as a Historic Landmark of Agricultural Engineering by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers in 1980, shortly after testing was moved to a …
Highway Construction And Maintenance Equipment With Machine And Automotive Repair Shops For The Reconstruction Of The Highways Of The Iv Division, Ankara, Turkey, Steve Theodorides
Highway Construction And Maintenance Equipment With Machine And Automotive Repair Shops For The Reconstruction Of The Highways Of The Iv Division, Ankara, Turkey, Steve Theodorides
Masters Theses
"With the rapid advancements being made in travel and communication facilities today, the world is steadily growing smaller and people in the far places of the world are no longer strangers.
There is no doubting the importance of tractors, dozers, scrapers, power shovels, graders, bituminus construction equipment, aggregate handling, etc., in the present-day world, in aiding the progress of civilization and bringing to all people the good things of life.
It must be remembered that money expended for highways is not wasted, and can be classified as an asset.
In substance, this is a general project for the reconstruction and …
The Effect Of Inlet Air Temperature On The Efficiency Of A Spark Ignition Engine, John B. Toomey Jr.
The Effect Of Inlet Air Temperature On The Efficiency Of A Spark Ignition Engine, John B. Toomey Jr.
Masters Theses
"The object of this thesis is to determine the effect of inlet air temperature on the efficiency of an internal combustion engine. In most text books the subject is dismissed with mentioning the negative effect of warm air on the maximum output of the engine. This fact is recognized but since most engines are run at maximum output only a small percentage of the time, it would be possible to control the air temperature as the situation demanded. With the assumption that cold air could be used when full power is desired, it was decided to determine the effect of …
Air Flow Through Cloth Screening, Kurt Rauf Basakinci
Air Flow Through Cloth Screening, Kurt Rauf Basakinci
Masters Theses
"The object of this investigation is to obtain an expression whereby flow of air through woven cloth can be predicted with a reasonable degree of accuracy, in terms of the pressure drop across the screen, the density, the viscosity of the air flowing; these latter properties being functions of the pressure and temperature of the air.
The development of an expression from which to predict the relationship between the air flow through a screen and the pressure drop across it without resort to experimental procedure seems to the author to be worthwhile undertaking.
The chief aim of this investigation was …
