A Life History Study Of The Ground Squirrel Citellus Spilosoma Major (Merriam), Ferd Sumrell
Biology ETDs
There has been very little investigation of this species of ground squirrel, Citellus spilosoma major (Merriam), although it is found in five States and in many localities it is the most conspicuous and most numerous rodent.
Correlation Between The Rh Factor And Landsteiner Blood Groups, Helen M. Zuelzke
Correlation Between The Rh Factor And Landsteiner Blood Groups, Helen M. Zuelzke
Biology ETDs
Eighty-five percent of human beings have an agglutinogen similar to that in rhesus monkeys, now called the Rh factor. This natural antibody is comparable to those which make human blood divisible into the Landsteiner groups A, B, AB, and O. This Rh factor is so called because it was first discovered in the blood of rhesus monkeys. Its importance is that it provides an explanations for previously baffling reactions to blood transfusions and the loss of babies by apparently healthy women during or shortly after pregnancy.

Have you ever been unhappy and probably disagreeable because you couldn't have a certain dress, shoes or hat that you thought you just had to have? Most girls, and sometimes grown people, at one time or another have felt this way. Usually these girls would not have felt unhappy about being unable to have a certain dress if they had made a study of their clothing expenditures and had spent their money wisely.

An Additional Trematode From Tortugas, Florida, And A New Name For Opisthoporus Manter, 1947, Preoccupied, Harold W. Manter
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Library Materials
Professor José M. Ruiz of Sao Paulo, Brazil, has kindly called my attention to the fact that the generic name Opisthoporus Manter, 1947 had been used several times previously, a condition which I had indeed checked but thoughtlessly forgot. For Opisthoporus Manter, 1947 (nec Opisthoporus Benson, 1851; Opisthoporus Minot, 1877; Opisthoporus Fukui, 1929), the name Postporus is proposed. The two species become Postporus epinepheli (Manter, 1947) and Postporus mycteropercae (Manter, 1947).
The combination Pleurogonus candidulus (Linton, 1910) (misspelled "candibulus" in my paper) had been made in 1946 by Ruiz (1946: 295) where, however, it was first printed " …

Effect Of Position Within A Large Storage Bin Upon Midwinter Behavior Of Nebraska Triumph Seed Potatoes, H. O. Werner
Effect Of Position Within A Large Storage Bin Upon Midwinter Behavior Of Nebraska Triumph Seed Potatoes, H. O. Werner
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
Much variation in time of emergence of plants has been observed within lots of Nebraska seed potatoes planted in the South during the winter. In large storage bins in western Nebraska the end of the dormancy period of tubers in various parts of the bin, as determined by the appearance of sprouts, may vary from January to May. It has been surmised that differences in temperatures and perhaps other conditions in various parts of the bin may account for such variations. In the winter of 1941-42 an experiment was conducted to determine the extent to which the position of potatoes …

South Dakota Crop Varieties : Recommendations And Descriptions, Agricultural Extension Service, South Dakota State College
SDSU Extension Circulars
Growing adapted varieties insures more stable production and creates new wealth. Using unadapted varieties often invites disaster and causes wide fluctuation in feed and grain supplies. It is recognized that there are two important and profitable markets for grain in the state, namely, (1) market through livestock feeding and (2) industrial uses.

Safflower Production In The Western Part Of The Northern Great Plains, C. E. Classen
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
Recent development of new varieties with seeds averaging more than 30 per cent oil give safflower a good chance of becoming an important oil seed crop in the United States. It is the purpose of this circular to acquaint farmers with the crop and to outline the most promising production practices for those who undertake its production in the western part of the northern Great Plains.

The Chromosomes Of The Yeast Cell, Donald William Penn
The Chromosomes Of The Yeast Cell, Donald William Penn
Bachelors’ Theses
Saccharomyces cerevisiae has long been a fungus of economic importance in the baking and beverage fields. A large amount of research has been done on this yeast cytologically and biochemically. However, due to its small size and difficulty in staining, the cytology of the yeast cell remains somewhat in question. Chromosomes and division figures have been demonstrated by several workers, but there still remain sharp differences of opinion as to the nature of the nucleus. Recent work on the genetics of yeast has shown evidence of chromosome division similar to that occurring in higher plants and studies of linkage have …

Some Additional Observations On The Morphology Of Dendrouterina Botauri Rausch, 1948 (Cestoda: Dilepididae), Robert L. Rausch
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
The scolex has never been described for cestodes of the genus Dendrouterina Fuhrmann, 1912. The two species belonging to this genus, D. herodiae Fuhrmann, 1912, and D. botauri Rausch, 1948, were described from incomplete material. Because of the lack of a scolex, this genus was only tentatively placed by Fuhrmann (1912) in the family Dilepididae.
Persistent collecting during the spring migration of 1948 made possible the examination of a number of bitterns, Botaurus l. lentiginosus (Montagu). A single bird, collected on May 5, 1948, at Madison, Wisconsin, was found to be infected with two specimens of Dendrouterina botauri. Observations …

4-H Club : Meal Planning "B" Plan, Agricultural Extension Service, South Dakota State College
SDSU Extension Circulars
The B-Plan is to help you with the planning and preparing of luncheons or suppers. The number of meals per day is a matter of custom. Our three meals are breakfast, luncheon and dinner. We eat one light meal (breakfast), one moderate meal (luncheon or supper) and one heavy meal (dinner). In this plan we are concerned with the moderate meal. Noon seems like the favored time for this meal. There is more variety in luncheon menus than in breakfast menus. Such factors as age, sex, occupation, state of health, habit and season influence what we eat at each meal. …

Bulletin No. 333 - Drainage Districts In Utah: Their Activities And Needs, J. Howard Maughan, Orson W. Israelsen, Eldon G. Hanson
UAES Bulletins
The need for drainage in Utah was widely recognized before 1900, resulting in passage of a drainage district law in 1896 and provision for cooperative drainage research beginning in 1904. The drainage district laws, developed and improved during the half-century ending 1948, have served as the major basis for drainage organization in the state.

Bulletin No. 336 - Utah Agricultural Experiment Station Biennial Report, 1946-1948, R. H. Walker
UAES Bulletins
During the past biennium there has been a general expansion in the research program of the Agricultural Experiment Station. This was made possible through increased state legislative appropriation and through federal funds made available by the Agricultural Research and Marketing Act which passed Congress in August 1946, although funds were not available until August 1947. Grants-in-aid by state and private agencies have also made other research possible.
Forest Resources And Industries Of Missouri, D. B. King, E. V. Roberts, R. K. Winters
Forest Resources And Industries Of Missouri, D. B. King, E. V. Roberts, R. K. Winters
United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
Missouri's forests occupy more than 15 million acres, one-third of the land area of the state. Practically all of this area is classified as commercial forest land. The noncommercial forest lands aggregate less than 1 percent of the total forest area. Two-thirds of all the commercial forest land is in the rugged Ozark region south of the Missouri River. Ninety percent of the commercial forest land is privately owned and is almost equally divided between farm and nonfarm owners. The Clark and Mark Twain National Forests contain 8 percent of the total, and the remaining 2 percent is divided between …
