Optimization Of Parameters For Soft-Nip Calendering Of Uncoated Paper, Jung-Kyu Yang Jan 1950

Optimization Of Parameters For Soft-Nip Calendering Of Uncoated Paper, Jung-Kyu Yang

Paper Engineering Senior Theses

The major reason for calendering is to impart both smoothness and gloss on paper. Smoothness, which is the degree of flatness of the surface, and gloss, which is a measurement of light reflectance, are unrelated parameters. However, both smoothness and gloss are related to printing process. Strength properties affect the printing machine runability. In general, calendering reduces strength properties of the paper. The degree of finish obtained in a soft-nip calendering depends on characteristics of the paper, such as moisture content and type of filling materials. The purpose of this study is to determine the best conditions for soft-nip calender …

Influence Of Eastern Redcedar On Soil In Connecticut Pine Plantations, Laurence C. Walker, R.A. Read Jan 1950

Influence Of Eastern Redcedar On Soil In Connecticut Pine Plantations, Laurence C. Walker, R.A. Read

Faculty Publications

Physical and chemical properties of surface soil beneath eastern redcedar trees in pine plantations in Connecticut were found to be different from those beneath adjacent pines. Properties of the surface soil beneath redcedars were apparently influenced by the specific chemical nature of the cedar leaflitter, its decomposition products, and subsequent' incorporation in the soil by earthworms.

Safflower Production In The Western Part Of The Northern Great Plains, C. E. Classen

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

Recent development of new varieties with seeds averaging more than 30 per cent oil give safflower a good chance of becoming an important oil seed crop in the United States. It is the purpose of this circular to acquaint farmers with the crop and to outline the most promising production practices for those who undertake its production in the western part of the northern Great Plains.

The Texas Species Of Thelesperma (Compositae), Lloyd H. Shinners

Field and Laboratory

Seven genera of Compositae-Heliantheae-Coreopsidinae as delimited by Hoffman (1894) are found in Texas….Thelesperma has been the subject of partial synopses and extended. notes (Gray, 1884; Rydberg, 1900; Blake, 1928), but has never been revised. The genus reaches its greatest development in Texas and northern Mexico; seven of the thirteen known species are included in the following synopsis. The remaining six are listed at the end for the convenience of those interested.

A New Yellow-Flowered Rain Lily In Texas, V. L. Cory

Field and Laboratory

Most of us know one or both of the white-flowered rain lilies (Cooperiri Drummondii Herb. and C. peclunculata Herb.) which spring up suddenly and burst into full bloom several days after a significant rainfall; but most of us have never seen a yellow-flowered rain lily.

Leaflet No 1003 - The Salt Problem In The Wheat Belt, G. H. Burvill Jan 1950

Leaflet No 1003 - The Salt Problem In The Wheat Belt, G. H. Burvill

Bulletins 1 - 2999

IN the wheat belt of Western Australian bare patches in farm paddocks are often seen. Many are bare, or almost bare, because of too much salt in the soil. The excess of salt prevents the germination of seeds, or kills living plants, because it causes the water supply for germination or growth to be cut off. This salt problem is so serious in places that single farms or groups of farms have been ruined; wheat growing on them has become unprofitable.

Leaflet No 1001 - Aerial Baiting For The Control Of The Little Plague Grasshopper (Austroicetes Cruciata Sauss), C. F. Jenkins

Bulletins 1 - 2999

Aeroplanes have been tested for grasshopper control in many parts of the world during the last decade but the insecticides used have been in either dust or spray form.

The aerial distribution of bran bait is quite a recent development in overseas countries and was tried for the first time in Western Australia during the spring of 1949.

A Survey Of The Microflora Obtained By Flushing The Normal Bovine Uterus, Johannah Jane Wulf Jan 1950

A Survey Of The Microflora Obtained By Flushing The Normal Bovine Uterus, Johannah Jane Wulf

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Since artificial insemination has become a reality and the potentialities of ova transfer are being investigated by several research workers, it seems reasonable to assume that some attention should be directed toward gathering information regarding the bacterial flora of the normal bovine uterus. Both artificial insemination and ova transfer require the insertion of foreign bodies or instruments into the uterus. When such instruments enter this organ, there is always the possibility of introducing various kinds of bacteria. Very little information is available regarding the pathogenicity of these bacteria in the bovine uterus. The possibility of abortion due to such pathogenic …
