Some Mechanical And Horomonal Methods Of Dilating The Bovine Cervix, Edmund F. Graham

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The selection for certain inherited characteristics war practiced approximately 2000 years before the Christian Era. Jacob (Genesis 30:28-43) was given all the speckled cattle in his master’s herd for being herdsman. In a few years, by selecting for the spotting factor, only speckled cattle remained in the herd. Selection was the first tool for segregating definite characteristics. As a means of more rapid improvement artificial insemination was practiced by an Arabian chieftain as early as 1322 A. D. (35). Since 1322 these crude methods of transferring semen have been perfected until approximately four million cows were inseminated in the United …

Red-Backed Vole With A Tick Attached Near Eyeball, H. L. Gunderson Jan 1952

Red-Backed Vole With A Tick Attached Near Eyeball, H. L. Gunderson

University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers

A red-backed vole (Clethrionomys gapperi), with a tick attached to or just under the inner corner of the eyelid at the canthus, was caught in a live trap on July 11, 1961. This is an unusual place of attachment and it is difficult to understand how the tick could have become attached at a point where it could easily be scratched off by either the forefoot or hind foot of the vole.

Summary Of Information Given At Fortified Farming, Agricultural Extension Service, South Dakota State College

SDSU Extension Circulars

United States farmers have done heroic jobs of producing food during the past 10 years. Now our country needs even greater farm production in 1952. And for future years increasing food demands are likely. Farmers will need to produce more. At the same time we must "fortify our farming" by maintaining and building up our soil.

Orchard Notes - March-April Jan 1952

Orchard Notes - March-April

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3

Cover crops should be planted with the first winter rains to ensure satisfactory growth before the cold wet weather sets in. New Zealand Blue Lupins are the favourite crop, particularly amongst citrus orchardists. The lupin is a vigorous plant and produces excellent bulk. Tick beans may be used as an alternative crop and are useful in shaded positions. They are extensively used in commercial vineyards. Field peas may also be planted but the bulk of green material produced is much less than from lupins or tick beans.

Apples, Pears,And Stone Fruit, H. R. Powell

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3

Disappointing settings of pome fruits have been a feature of this season's crop reports. Hail caused heavy losses in restricted areas and a lot of fruit was blemished by looper caterpillars. The setting of stone fruits was particularly good.

New Arrivals In The Rose World, C. C. Hillary

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3

More new roses have been introduced since the war ended than in any similar period previously. In the past, however, new roses have not always meant better roses, and what is most pleasing about this latest batch of novelties is that quite a number show a distinct improvement over the older sorts. More especially is this improvement apparent in the newer hybrid polyantha roses which are now available in a range of colours undreamt of only a few years ago.

North Of The Nullarbor Plain, A. R. Tomlinson, C. K. Blair

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3

For a few hardy dingo-trappers—experienced bushmen able and willing to endure the rigours pf a nomadic existence in a waterless country - the area to the north of the Nullabor Plains has long been a favoured watering ground. In the 1949-1950 season bounties were paid on about 3,000 dingo scalps from this area.

Notes On Some Trematodes Parasiti,C In Alaskan Canidae, Bert B. Babero, Robert Rausch

Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications

Except for the report of Hadwen (1922) and a few miscellaneous records, little information is available relative to the helminth parasites infecting canine animals in Alaska. During the past two years, 520 autopsies on can ids have been performed in connection with the investigation of animal-borne diseases. The purpose of this note is to record the occurrence of four species of trematodes observed in Alaskan can ids during the course of these studies; one species is apparently reported for the first time from North America. These four parasites are mentioned separately below:

Metorchis albidus (Braun, 1833)

Ackert (1937) recorded this …
