LIATRIS MUCRONATA DC. f. Tharpii Shinners, f. nov. Corollis albis. TYPE : abundant on limestone prairie about five miles north of Austin at Walnut Creek, B. C. Tharp & Barton H. Warnock 45-35, Oct. 3, 1945. Color forms ordinarily are scarcely worth the trouble of giving Latin names. This one is a striking variant of an endemic which is also commonly cultivated, and has itself been introduced into cultivation. It seems desirable to assign a name to a plant with excellent horticultural possibilities, and appropriate to name it in honor of the man who brought it into cultivation.

Bee Visitors Of Penstemon Ellipticus (Scrophuhlariaeceae) On Eddy Peak, Sanders County, Mont., In Summer Of 1954, Robert Kral
Field and Laboratory
Eddy Peak, in the Cabinet National Forest of northwest Montana, is part of a large fault system in which thousands of feet of shale were thrust up to form an escarpment overlooking the Clark Fork River. The summit elevation is 7500 feet. Fracturing of the uppermost layers of shale has resulted in many talus slopes, some of them hundreds of yards from top to bottom, on the dip side of the strata. Parts of the mountain crest consist of nothing but a jumble of shale blocks in a very unstable state. During the summer of 1954 several slides occurred. Apparently …

Stachybotrys Atra, An Effective Aggregator Of Peorian Loess, S. C. Downs, T. M. Mccalla, Francis A. Haskins
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications
Twelve cellulose-decomposing fungi were tested for aggregating ability with Peorian loess containing ground straw at a concentration of 1%. Of the 12 fungi, Stachybotrys atra was the most effective soil aggregator. Under laboratory conditions used, it produced from 2 to 30 times more aggregation than any of the other fungi tested. Studies were made of the influence of various environmental factors on the degree of aggregation effected by S. atra. An incubation time of 1 week was sufficient for a relatively high degree of aggregation. In comparison, longer periods resulted in only slightly improved aggregation. Varying the temperature between …

A Preliminary Study Of Farmer Bankruptcy Experiences In The Dakotas, 1928-1952, James Munger
A Preliminary Study Of Farmer Bankruptcy Experiences In The Dakotas, 1928-1952, James Munger
Agricultural Experiment Station Agricultural Economics Pamphlets (1941-1991)
The objectives of this study were (l) to analyze the operation of general bankruptcy procedure as used by farmers (2) to appraise the effectiveness of section 75 of the United States Bankruptcy Act as a relief measure and of the Frazier-Lemke Act in particular; and (3) to evaluate the bankruptcy experience of farmers in North and South Dakota from 1928-1953, in regard to the development of effective farmer-debtor relief legislation. It is generally agreed that farmers are very vulnerable to price, income, and weather fluctuations. Therefore, it has been contended that, in the national interest, farmers need and deserve legislative …

Paleosols Of The Oligocene Of Nebraska, C. Bertrand Schultz, Lloyd G. Tanner, Cyril Harvey
Paleosols Of The Oligocene Of Nebraska, C. Bertrand Schultz, Lloyd G. Tanner, Cyril Harvey
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
Prominent paleosol ("buried" or "fossil" soil) complexes occur at the top of the middle Orella, upper Orella, lower Whitney, and upper Whitney in the Brule formation of Nebraska; and at the top of the "Lower Oreodon," "Middle Oreodon," "Upper Oreodon," and "Leptauchenia" beds in the Brule deposits of South Dakota. These paleosols have regional distribution and appear to be of value in stratigraphic correlations. Major faunal breaks seem to coincide with important buried soil zones, thus indicating that certain paleosols actually represent unconformities. Some of the soils were developed on old land surfaces where deposition was practically at a standstill …
