A Farm Building Evaluation Technique For Tax Assessment, Joshua F. Robinson Apr 1956

A Farm Building Evaluation Technique For Tax Assessment, Joshua F. Robinson

Agricultural Experiment Station Agricultural Economics Pamphlets (1941-1991)

The purpose of this study is to develop a technique which may be used to improve farm buildings assessment procedures in South Dakota, Since farm buildings contribute in varying amounts to farm productivity, they should be assessed in direct proportion to their contribution. Such a procedure should aid tax assessors to determine accurately the true valuation. The specific objectives of the study were (1) to determine the relationship between market price and soil productivity for use in assessment of farm real estate; (2) to establish a ratio of the market value of buildings to land; and (3) to develop a …

Bulletin No. 381 - The Organization And Structure Of Egg Marketing In Utah, Roice H. Anderson Apr 1956

Bulletin No. 381 - The Organization And Structure Of Egg Marketing In Utah, Roice H. Anderson

UAES Bulletins

Sale of eggs is one of the major sources of farm income in Utah. In 1954 egg receipts represented 8 percent of the farm cash income. This was the lowest percentage since 1929; receipts reached a high of 13 percent in 1935.

The relative importance of egg production doubled from 1924 to 1929 when the proportion of cash farm income from eggs increased from 4 to 9 percent. Since 1929 it has fluctuated without apparent trend. The percentage of cash income from eggs was high in years when egg prices were high relative to the other agricultural products and low …

Culling The Egg Production Flock, Boyd J. Bunzer, Lloyd Shinnick Apr 1956

Culling The Egg Production Flock, Boyd J. Bunzer, Lloyd Shinnick

SDSU Extension Circulars

Every pullet housed in the fall represents a sizeable investment that must be recovered from the eggs she lays because her meat value is usually only a third to a half of what it costs to raise her. With this in mind most flocks should receive little culling through the fall and winter months. A rigid culling program should begin during late spring and early summer when hens start their annual molt. The history of the flock should be carefully considered before any culling is done. A flock should never be culled when it is sick or still recovering from …

Rate Of Potato Tuber Growth On Dryland At The Box Butte Experiment Farm, H. O. Werner Apr 1956

Rate Of Potato Tuber Growth On Dryland At The Box Butte Experiment Farm, H. O. Werner

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

Relatively late planting of potatoes, i.e., between June 12 and 25, has become the prevailing practice in the dryland areas of western Nebraska. Late planting distinctly improves the color and type of tubers, and reduces losses due to insects and diseases (especially soil-borne diseases caused by Fusarium and Streptomyces). Growers must decide each year whether the increase in yield and tuber maturity gained by delaying harvest will be offset by the risk of impaired tuber quality due to scab or possible serious field frost damage. Information about the rate at which tubers are developing by various dates is essential …

The Texas Species Of Dyssodia (Compositae), Marshall C. Johnston Apr 1956

The Texas Species Of Dyssodia (Compositae), Marshall C. Johnston

Field and Laboratory

I aim: (1) to distinguish by key the species of Dyssodia in Texas; (2) to map their Texas distribution as indicated by herbarium specimens; and (3) briefly, to indicate and discuss their relationships and nomenclature. Upwards of 2500 herbarium specimens have been examined. Many of these were not collected in Texas; this over-all survey threw much taxonomic light on, and indeed was prerequisite to an adequate understanding of, the Texas members of the group.

Observations On The Morphology, Physiology, And Life History Of Allescheria Boydii Shear, Robert Denton Flory Apr 1956

Observations On The Morphology, Physiology, And Life History Of Allescheria Boydii Shear, Robert Denton Flory

Master's Theses

Of those organisms upon the face of the earth displaying a wide range of variability, excellent examples may be found amoung certain groups of the fungi. This extreme variation as noted in certain fungal groups becomes even more interesting when the phenomenon of sexuality is eliminated or of rare occurrence as in many of the Fungi Imperfecti. Such extreme variations occur in Allescheria Boydii, whose historical background is as interesting as the growth of the fungus itself.

In 1909 Tarozzi (46)isolated a fungus organism as the causative agent in a Sardinian case of mycetoma. Tarozzi referred this fungus to Saccardo, …

Studies On The Helminth Fauna Of Alaska. Xxviii. The Description And Occurrence Of Diphyllobothrium Dalliae N. Sp. (Cestoda), Robert L. Rausch Apr 1956

Studies On The Helminth Fauna Of Alaska. Xxviii. The Description And Occurrence Of Diphyllobothrium Dalliae N. Sp. (Cestoda), Robert L. Rausch

Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications

Plerocercoid larvae of Diphyllobothrium spp. occur commonly in various species of freshwater and anadromous fishes in Alaska. Several times in recent years the writer has observed a distinctive plerocercoid in the blackfish, Dallia pectoralis Bean, an abundant and economically important species in the Kuskokwim River region of western Alaska. This cestode was studied in detail during the summer and fall of 1955, and has been found to represent an undescribed species, for which the name Diphyllobothrium dalliae n. sp. is proposed.
