Studies In Breaking The Rest Period Of Grass Plants By Treatments With Potassium Thiocyante And In Stimulating Growth With Artificial Light, Harold R. Shepherd
Studies In Breaking The Rest Period Of Grass Plants By Treatments With Potassium Thiocyante And In Stimulating Growth With Artificial Light, Harold R. Shepherd
Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice
There has developed a need for a practical means of artificially breaking the rest period and of stimulating the growth of grasses so that sods can be procured early in the fall before freezing weather, brought into the greenhouse, and forced early to make an abundant vegetative growth. This need suggested the study of which this paper is the report, namely to discover whether or not the rest period of native grasses can be broken by treatment with potassium thiocyanate and their growth stimulated by artificial light supplemental to winter daylight.

A Proposed Method For Classifying And Evaluating Soils On The Basis Of Productivity And Use Suitabilities, Arthur Anderson, A. P. Nelson, F. A. Hayes, I. D. Wood
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
It is the object of this paper to present a method for classifying and evaluating the soils as mapped in regular soil surveys on the basis of land types, which are here defined as areas having reasonably similar productivity and use suitabilities. The standards used to differentiate land types will vary according to the desired objectives, but any material difference in yield, or in practices necessary to maintain a desirable level of productivity will justify recognition of land types. The proposed procedure involves a more detailed study of the influence which soils, slope, erosion, and drainage have on specific crops …
The Anatomy Of The Musculature Of The Necturus, Carl Henry Zeuner
The Anatomy Of The Musculature Of The Necturus, Carl Henry Zeuner
Bachelors’ Theses
This paper is intended to discuses the dissection and complete anatomy of the musculature of the Necturus. The Nacturus was chosen, as it is the most characteristic of the order Urodela and it shows many fish-lite adaptations. However, there are definite and distinct changes over the muscles of the fish. The Necturus has walking, legs requiring muscles between the individual parts of the limbs as well as between the limbs and the body itself as is the oase in the fish.
The Liver Of The Frog, Robert A. Grace
The Liver Of The Frog, Robert A. Grace
Bachelors’ Theses
The object of this paper is neither to contribute any new information, nor to criticize any work that has been done on the liver of the frog. The aim is merely to give a brief summary of the gross anatomy, the progress achieved in certain cytological fields, and the function of the liver in digestion and as a dietary factor. In doing this, the paper is intended to show the general trend of research which is apparent in current literature
The Blood Of The Frog, Leonard Gorenstein
The Blood Of The Frog, Leonard Gorenstein
Bachelors’ Theses
The circulatory system of the vertebrates is one of the most important found in the animal kingdom. The reason being that it carries food, oxygen, and hormones to all parts of the body and also removes all types of waste materials. this system involves a pump-like apparatus, called the heart, to which are attached tube-like vessels called arteries and veins. A liquid called a fluid-tissue circulates in this closed transportation system which is said to be closed in order to distinguish it from a semi-closed or open system in which a sinus or tissue cavity separates certain arteries and veins. …
Pituitary Gland Of Frog, Harold Joseph
Pituitary Gland Of Frog, Harold Joseph
Bachelors’ Theses
The endocrine or ductless gland system is one of the most important systems in the body of the vertebrates. The glands which comprise this system are the pancreas, which produces the insulin hormone; the thyroid, which secretes the throxin hormone; the parathyroid which produces the hormone known as the para-thormone; the adrenal glands which secretes cortin and adrenalin; the pineal gland about which very little is known; and the pituitary gland which produces many hormones, two of which, tethelin and pituitrin, are of great physiological importance. These hormones pass directly into the blood or lymph vessels and enter the circulatory …
Kidney Of The Frog, Felix Taubman
Kidney Of The Frog, Felix Taubman
Bachelors’ Theses
The frog has been used exclusively in both high school and college as the main source of experimental biological and zoological studies. Because it is so easily obtained and so finely adapted to our purposes, we chose it as the specimen upon which to do our thesis work. Much has been done experimentally on the kidneys with the frog. The purpose of this thesis is to present a general view of the external and microscopic anatomy of the frog kidney and with this as a groundwork to present the problems of secretion; whether secretion is carried on by the renal …
Investigation Of The Proteolytic Power Of Soybean Brew Flakes Using The New Viscosimetric Method, Jon Kenneth Mccormick
Investigation Of The Proteolytic Power Of Soybean Brew Flakes Using The New Viscosimetric Method, Jon Kenneth Mccormick
Bachelors’ Theses
Progress along technical and scientific paths may be considered slow or rapid, depending upon the point of view taken. A survey of the artistic and technical achievements of the early Egyptians and Babylonians would lead one to believe progress to be rather slow. Yet, a consideration of the social scientific developments of the last century would lead one to deem progress as being very rapid. Unknown and perhaps unconsciously, progress is continually being made by that vast legion of unheralded scientists ·and technicians from which arise the notable authorities of the future.
Coloration In The Frog, Elizabeth Mary Pluck
Coloration In The Frog, Elizabeth Mary Pluck
Bachelors’ Theses
The color of an animal is by no means a matter of chance. It depends upon many factors, such as, the presence or absence of certain hormones within the body, the temperature of the animal's surroundings, the amount of light which is present, and certain chemical reagents with which the animal comes in contact. Animals have both color and coloration; and it is necessary to discriminate between the two terms. Color is associated with actual shades or hues as red, green, or yellow; whereas, the term coloration refers to the manner in which the individual colors are arranged into patterns.

An Application Of Feulgen's Chromatin Stain To The Chromatin Material Of Sclerospora Graminicola, Elizabeth Annette Badalik
An Application Of Feulgen's Chromatin Stain To The Chromatin Material Of Sclerospora Graminicola, Elizabeth Annette Badalik
Bachelors’ Theses
Much work has been done up to the present time on the general staining of cells, but. the workers have been greatly limited in their attempts to stain one particular portion of a cell, such as the chromatin material, without staining the remaining portion of that same cell. The ideal stain should effect only the specified portion of the cell and the remaining portion which is not to be stained should remain stainless and void of color. There. has been a lack of reliable stain for differentiating the chromatin in the cytology of lower plants and Protista.
Practical Study Of The Musculatuer Of The Cat, Jack Lamalfa
Practical Study Of The Musculatuer Of The Cat, Jack Lamalfa
Bachelors’ Theses
The author has tried his best, in this thesis, to review, to dissect, and to make a comprehensive study of the muscles of the lower limb of the cat. With this end in view, he has taken the natural advantages present, such as text books, outlines, and charts as means of attaining it.
The anatomy of the cat’s muscles laid bare in dissection would be incomplete and inadequate without the aid of photographs and illustrations. So with the help of Charles Wilbur, B.S., a fellow student, the author succeeded in making some excellent views of the muscles of the lower …
The Anatomy, Physiology, And Histology Of The Musculature Of The Pelvic Appendages Of Rana Catesbiana, Wilfred F. Horner
The Anatomy, Physiology, And Histology Of The Musculature Of The Pelvic Appendages Of Rana Catesbiana, Wilfred F. Horner
Bachelors’ Theses
The muscles of the frog leg have been worked on very extensively during the last thirty-five years. The reason the frog has been subjected to such an extensive study in research is the fact of its striking resemblances to man and also the fact that they are plentiful and easy to work with in all types of experiments. The structures of a frog are well developed and prove very efficient for study.
This specific field of work was picked for this thesis because of the interest to the author, the magnitude of work done in the field, and the importance …

The Feeding Value Of Certain Duck Food Plants Of The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge As Determined By Chemical Analysis, Dale Clair Christensen
The Feeding Value Of Certain Duck Food Plants Of The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge As Determined By Chemical Analysis, Dale Clair Christensen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The study of bird feeding problems has become a prominent factor in wild life management. This is true especially with respect to the evaluation of recently established migratory bird refuges. In 1929 the Federal Government assumed control of a large area of land located on the Bear River Bay of Great Salt Lake for the purpose of providing a sanctuary for water fowl. Dykes were built and the areas inside these dykes flooded with fresh water from Bear River. During subsequent years aquatic and marsh plants* developed abundantly and apparently have provided satisfactory feeding and nesting grounds for migratory birds. …
