Organic Cherry Pest Management, Marion Murray, Ann Mull
Organic Cherry Pest Management, Marion Murray, Ann Mull
All Current Publications
Tart cherry (Prunus cerasus) and sweet cherry (P. avium) are important commercial crops and popular backyard trees. Tart cherries are commonly processed into dried or canned products, while sweet cherries are generally eaten fresh. Organic cherry production in the Intermountain West can be challenging because of pests such as western cherry fruit fly and arid growing conditions. However, with careful planning and appropriate management practices, it is possible to produce a good crop using organic pest management strategies. This fact sheet outlines general, pest, and disease management options.

Differences In Mental Toughness Among Mixed Martial Artists And Physically Active Individuals, Savannah M. Calleja, Soleil Ramos, Victoria Potvin, Anthony A. Ricci, Gabriel J. Sanders, Corey A. Peacock
Journal for Sports Neuroscience
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a physiological and psychological demanding sport. While the majority of the literature conducted in MMA regards physiological health and risk of injury, researchers are beginning to assess the psychological profiles of MMA athletes. Previous studies have evaluated mental toughness (MT) within MMA; however, no study has examined MT in MMA athletes at the professional division. Therefore, the primary purpose of this research was to evaluate the difference in mental toughness between professional MMA athletes and physically active individuals. Secondary aims are to evaluate potential variations in mental toughness within the professional level between champion and …

Toxic Plants In Zimbabwe: The Lantana Camara Species, Frank Kapungu, Cecilia Masvingwe
Poisonous Plant Research (PPR)
Lantana camara is a major invasive plant species in Zimbabwe. Its toxic effects pose a threat to livestock production, biodiversity, and development. A survey was carried out throughout the country to investigate the distribution of L. camara in Zimbabwe and assess the extent of its spread. Identification was done by toxicologists with the support of an experienced botanist from the National Herbarium of Zimbabwe. The location of the plants was identified using a portable Garmin eTrex® 10 Handheld GPS navigation device., and the coordinates were recorded. Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) was used to plot the map. L. camara was …

Phosphoric Acid-Mediated Regeneration Of Sugarcane Bagasse Cellulose-Rich Fraction For Enzymatic Production Of Water-Soluble Cellulosic Oligomers, Chiou-Yeong Saw, David Agus Setiawan Wibisono, Tsung-Yen Wu, Yung Chang, Chi-Fai Chau
Journal of Food and Drug Analysis
An integrated strategy was developed to promote conversion of a sugarcane bagasse cellulose-rich fraction into water-soluble cellulosic oligomers (WCOs) through phosphoric acid-mediated regeneration and enzymatic hydrolysis. Alkaline pretreatment on sugarcane bagasse powder increased glucan content from 57.6 to 93.4 g/100 g sample and lowered Klason lignin to 6.1 g/100 g sample. Phosphoric acid-mediated regeneration was subsequently capable of reorganizing the structure of cellulose from sugarcane bagasse, resulting in a decrease of crystallinity from 72.9 to 64.0% and introducing cellulose II-like features. The hydration state of regenerated cellulose strongly influenced hydrolysis performance, as the hydrated form showed significantly higher solubilization (810.4 …

Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy
Background: Malnutrition and infectious diseases compromise immune responses, increasing vulnerability to infections. The introduction of plant-derived immunomodulators, such as Bryonia alba (Bry. alba), is attracting attention due to their lower side effects compared with chemical drugs. In Homoeopathy, Bry. alba has long been utilised to treat a wide range of illnesses, including viral infections, and is recognised for its immunomodulatory properties. Objectives: To evaluate the immunomodulatory effects of Bry. alba 6C and 30C potencies on humoral and delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) in sheep red blood cell (SRBC)-immunised BALB/c mice. Materials and methods: Fifty BALB/c mice were divided into five …

From Data To Medicine: A Milestone For Medical Chemistry And Bioinformatics In Indonesia, Fadilah Fadilah
Indonesian Journal of Medical Chemistry and Bioinformatics
Biomedical science is rapidly moving from data generation toward data-driven discovery and clinical translation. Genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and microbiomics now provide multiple perspectives on human biology, while bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and molecular modelling enable these complex datasets to be interpreted. The challenge is no longer simply to generate data, but to transform data into knowledge and knowledge into better medicine. This transition is particularly important for Indonesia, where genetic, environmental, microbial, and biological diversity creates both a challenge and an opportunity for population-relevant biomedical research.

This experiment was aimed to find some indicators related to primers and genetic variations. Six bread wheat genotypes were selected as the dataset. The RAPD marker technique was used with oligonucleotide primers as marker of study. The goal was to identify factors used for the relationship between primers and their ability to elicit DNA fragments through different genotypes, as well as the relative genetic band abundance among genotypes. After the designed factors, key findings emerged: in relative primer amplification rate, C1 genotype exhibited a higher relative primer amplification rate (RPAR) of fragments from OP-H01 but did not differ from OP-V19 …

Barriers And Facilitators To Health Literacy Among Black Americans With Overweight And Obesity In South Carolina: A Mini-Ethnographic Study, Shelly Campbell-Timmons
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this qualitative mini ethnography adapted from traditional ethnography with limited time and scope, was to explore and understand perceptions of barriers and facilitators to health literacy among Black Americans with overweight and obesity in three South Carolina counties. Population data showed that approximately 40.3% of U.S. adults are obese. Moreover, Non-Hispanic Black communities are disproportionately affected by overweight and obesity despite efforts to combat the weight-related health risk. Still, limited health literacy should be the focus of public health strategies like teach-back and plain language communication, to address overweight and obesity prevalence and disparities. The study was …

Integration Of Freshness Monitoring And Active Packaging Technologies For Aquatic Products, Maria Ali, Abdul Waheed Ghanghro, Bheem Raj Serani, Mahrukh Zakir
Journal of Food and Drug Analysis
Aquatic products are nutritionally valuable but highly perishable, with quality loss driven by microbial spoilage, biochemical changes, including total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), trimethylamine (TMA) and histamine, and physicochemical deterioration, including lipid oxidation, gas production and texture loss. Conventional packaging slows these processes but does not report real-time freshness. This review analyzes how active packaging (antimicrobial, antioxidant, enzyme-inhibiting, and oxygen-scavenging systems, including bio- and nanocomposites) can be combined with freshness monitoring technologies (colorimetric/pH indicators, gas sensors, biosensors, and digital tools such as radio frequency identification (RFID) and Internet of Things (IoT) systems) specifically for fish, shrimp, and mollusks. We first …
