The Bee Genus Holcopasites Ashmead, J. C. Crawford
Co
This genus was established by Dr. Ashmead in Trans. Amer. Ent. Soc., vol. 26, p. 82, 1899, but no species was included. The material on which he based his description is in the U. S. National Museum and bears his manuscript name H. pratti. This, however, is the species described by Robertson as Philerenius illinoiensis, which species I select as the genotype. To this genus also belong Phileremus pulchellus Cresson, P. heliopsis Robert., and Neopasites robertsoni Cwfd. as well as the new species described below.

Dramatic Elements In American Indian Ceremonials, Virginia Shropshire Heath
Dramatic Elements In American Indian Ceremonials, Virginia Shropshire Heath
University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)
"Poetry in general," says Aristotle, "seems to have sprung from two causes, each of them lying deep in our nature-first, the instinct of imitation ..., next, ... the instinct for 'harmony' and 'rhythm.'" Many of the lyric-legend-dance complexes of certain North American Indian religious ceremonials would seem to bear out this judgment. Indeed, in not a few of the unmistakably poetic expressions, there may be found well-defined dramatic elements suggesting the possibility of a developed, independent dramatic literature, had these savage peoples been left alone to initiate a civilization and culture of their own. The South American Indians were capable …
Some Species Of The Bee Genus Coelioxys, J. C. Crawford
Some Species Of The Bee Genus Coelioxys, J. C. Crawford

This paper discusses only species occurring in America north of Mexico and no table to separate the males has been included since Prof. T. D. A. Cockerell published a table for this sex in the Canadian Entomologist for June, 1912, pp. 167-170. The key to the females includes all the species for the region under consideration in which the female sex has been described. In the table here presented the characters used for separating rufitarsis Sm. from comstockii Cress. and lucrosa Cress. from moesta Cress. are the characters used by Prof. Cockerell in a table to separate the types of …

In this paper where both sexes of a species are described, that last described is the allotype. Comparative measurements where given in figures were made with the Zeiss binocular microscope equipped with No. 2 eyepieces and the a3 objective and an eyepiece micrometer.
A Dry Rot Of The Irish Potato Tuber, E. Mead Wilcox, George K.K. Link, Venus W. Pool
A Dry Rot Of The Irish Potato Tuber, E. Mead Wilcox, George K.K. Link, Venus W. Pool
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
The first specimens of the dry rot herein described were received by the department of Agricultural Botany during the winter of 1907-1908 from western Nebraska. A preliminary survey of the situation showed clearly the importance of this new rot, and an exhaustive investigation of the disease was outlined and has been continued to the present time. The present publication gives the results secured to date in our investigation of this disease.

Many of the species herein described were received from the Bureau of Entomology, United States Department of Agriculture, having been reared by its various branches in economic investigations as parasites of injurious insects. In this connection attention is especially called to the interesting and varied series reared from Agromyza. In this paper, as in all previous papers published by me, the sex first described is to be taken as the true type and the second as the allotype.
Die Bienenfauna Von Westpreußen, J. D. Alfken
Die Bienenfauna Von Westpreußen, J. D. Alfken
A

A Consideration Of The Physiology And Life History Of A Parasitic Botrytis On Pepper And Lettuce, George L. Peltier
A Consideration Of The Physiology And Life History Of A Parasitic Botrytis On Pepper And Lettuce, George L. Peltier
Department of Plant Pathology: Faculty Publications
During the autumn of 1911, while gathering the peppers (Capsicum) in the vegetable plat of the Missouri Botanical Garden, the writer observed a fungus which was appearing as a parasite on the fruits. The peduncles were covered with a dark brown mass of conidia and mycelium, which so weakened the tissues that the fruit soon fell to the ground. On opening the peppers a number of large, flat, crust-like sclerotia, 1 cm. long and .5 cm. wide, were found to fill the interior. In most cases the seeds were also covered with the crust-like masses. The conidial stage …

Most of the species described in this paper were received for determination through the Bureau of Entomology, United States Department of Agriculture, and are of economic importance. The figures made to illustrate certain details were all drawn with the aid of the camera lucida. Comparative measurements were made with an eye-piece micrometer used in the Zeiss binocular microscope.
The Present Methods Of Teaching Entomology, Herbert Osborn
The Present Methods Of Teaching Entomology, Herbert Osborn
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
In a discussion of the methods of teaching entomology, it is almost necessary to take a hasty view of the growth of the subject and of the different methods of imparting knowledge in it during the past half century. We need scarcely go back of this, because for the United States, at least, the growth of the teaching of entomology as a subject included in a college curriculum has had its growth within that time. In fact, practically all of the development of the teaching outside of two or three localities has been within the last twenty-five' years. Naturally the …

New Hymenoptera From The Phillipine Islands, J. C. Crawford

The species described in this paper were for the most part collected by the Rev. Robert E. Brown, S. J., although a few are from the material gathered by the Rev. William A. Stanton, S. J. Under each species credit has been given to the collector. In the Philippine Journal of Science a Father Brown has given a list of the species of Hymenoptera found in the islands and has cited several names sent him by the late Dr. W. H. Ashmead which are manuscript names. In describing these species, of which no manuscript has been found, the name used …

Bulletin No. 106 - A Study Of The Production And Movement Of Nitric Nitrogen In An Irrigated Soil, Robert Stewart, J. E. Greaves
UAES Bulletins
The problem of maintaining the nitrogen content in our agricultural soils is one of vital importance to the development of a permanent system of agriculture. Any investigation, therefore, which tends to throw any light on the conditions which are necessary for maintaining the maximum supply of nitrogen in our soils needs no apology for its institution.

Practical Information On The Scolytid Beetles On North American Forests I. Barkbeetles Of The Genus Dendroctonus, Andrew Delmar Hopkins
The Bark Beetles, Fuels, and Fire Bibliography
During the writer's investigations of extensive insect depredations in the forests of West Virginia, from 1890 to 1902, he was forcibly impressed with the importance of the forest-insect problem in connection with any future efforts toward the successful management of the forests of this country, and was thus led to give special attention to the subject. It was soon realized that among the principal groups of insect enemies of forest trees the scolytid bark and wood boring beetles must occupy first rank, both in economic importance and systematic interest. Subsequent investigations in West Virginia, in connection with the work of …
