Whole Tumor Apparent Diffusion Coefficient Histogram In Assessment Of Treatment Response In Locally Advanced Cervical Cancer, Wahdan. N, Wahba. H, Samir. S, Dina. G. Abdelzaher
Mansoura Medical Journal
Purpose:
We aimed to determine the prognostic value of whole-tumor ADC histogram analysis in predicting therapeutic outcomes for patients undergoing concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) for locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC).
Methods:
This prospective, single-institution study enrolled 40 women (mean age 53.8 ± 11.4 years) with pathologically confirmed LACC (FIGO stages IIB–IVA). Pelvic MRI including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) was performed at baseline and after CCRT. Whole-tumor regions of interest (ROIs) were manually delineated on ADC maps to extract histogram parameters (mean, minimum, maximum ADC, skewness, and kurtosis). Using RECIST 1.1 criteria, patients were classified as responders (complete or partial response) or …

Background: Anorectal malformations (ARMs) encompass a broad range of congenital defects and are frequently associated with genitourinary (GU) anomalies, which may contribute to long-term morbidity if undetected. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and spectrum of GU anomalies in children with ARMs, describe the urological and genital findings, and assess associations with sex and ARM type.
Patients and Methods: A prospective survey enrolled children diagnosed with ARMs at a tertiary pediatric surgery center. All patients underwent standardized clinical assessment, including focused genital examination and structured imaging. Objectives: To assess the surgical outcomes among laryngotracheal stenosis patients who underwent tracheal/crico-tracheal resection anastomosis for with application of BloodSTOP iX on the anastomotic line as well as the operative field.
Methods: Fourteen patients participated in this prospective study. The stenotic airway segment was resected circumferentially using primary end-to-end anastomosis. The authors of this article used the same standardized surgical techniques described in the literature and used by them previously. All patients had suprahyoid release, and trachea-hyoid de-tensioning stitches were inserted to reduce the anastomotic tension. To promote healing, BloodSTOP iX was administered across the anastomosis line and surgical outcomes …

Background: Nocturnal enuresis (NE) is the involuntary passage of urine during sleep and is a common condition in the pediatric population. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), characterized by recurrent episodes of upper airway obstruction during sleep, has increasingly been identified as a significant contributing factor to NE. Previous studies indicate that children with OSA have a higher prevalence of bedwetting than their healthy counterparts.
Objective: To assess the impact of adenotonsillectomy (AT) on NE in children diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea.
Methods: This prospective study enrolled 20 pediatric patients presenting with both NE and OSA secondary to severe adenotonsillar hypertrophy. Tonsillar …

Background: Reestablishing blood circulation to the brain represents the primary proven treatment goal for acute ischaemic stroke (AIS). Recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (r-TPA) is a thrombolytic medication that enhances the rate of arterial blood flow restoration, reestablishes tissue perfusion, and leads to better functional recovery. This research aimed to examine changes in regional brain perfusion identified through arterial spin labeling (ASL) and how these changes correlate with functional recovery following ischemic stroke. Methods: This prospective observational research included 50 subjects with AIS in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) territory who were eligible for r-TPA treatment. Each patient underwent comprehensive neurological …

The Role Of Vitamin D In Management Of Pediatric Chronic Immune Thrombocytopenia, Eman Magdy Yahia, Suzy Abd El Mabood Abd El Hameed, Dalia Tawfeek Hussein, Amany Mamdouh Shoumah
Mansoura Medical Journal
In children, immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) remains a serious health concern, which is an autoimmune disorder (AID) characterized by an isolated decrease in platelet count, leading to an increased risk of bleeding.
The use of vitamin D supplementation represents a turning point in many autoimmune diseases, with the potential to deliver high cure rates with fewer side effects than previous therapies. In this review, we explore the incidence of ITP , immunopathogenesis, diagnosis and management in pediatric patients. We will discuss the mechanisms of action of vitamin D , focusing on its role in autoimmune diseases especially ITP

Background: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is an inherited disorder known by recurrent, brief, and self-limiting episodes of fever and serosal inflammation. It is primarily defined by acute inflammatory involvement of serosal membranes, including the pleura, peritoneum, and/or synovial tissues, typically associated by fever. This inflammatory cascade is inherently self-propagating and, if inadequately controlled, may lead to recurrent episodes or sustained inflammatory activity.
Aim of the work: To examine the clinical and demographic characteristics of individuals with childhood- initiation FMF, to determine the prevalence of the most frequent mutations in the FMF-linked gene within this population, and to assess the …

Background: Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is a straightforward and cost-effective parameter that is utilized in laboratory hematology to differentiate anemias. It is indicative of the grade of heterogeneity in erythrocyte volume. This study purpose examine the correlation among the risk of adverse results in patients with sepsis and RDW, as well as to equivalence the mortality discriminative capacity of RDW and lactate levels.
Methods: This observational prospective cohort study was done on 67 sepstic patients aged ≥ 21 years old, both sexes. Patients were owed into two groups according to RDW levels: Group A (n=35): normal RDW …

Background: Rectal cancer (RC) is a major cancer burden globally as it is among the tumors that are most frequently diagnosed worldwide and a significant contributor to global cancer mortality yearly. Imaging with diffusion weighting (DWI) and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the best radiological modality for the local staging and restaging of RC due to its excellent soft-tissue contrast and high spatial resolution.
Aim of the work: This study aims to assess the value of DW-MRI in staging and assessing treatment response in patients with RC who received concurrent chemoradiotherapy.
Methods: Forty-two patients with RC diagnoses …

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic, recurrent bowel disease characterized by inflammation that leads to superficial damage to the colon wall. The rate of incidence of UC differs from 0.5 to 31.5 per 100,000 subjects annually. The exact cause is still not well-identified. Studies suggest genetic factors, altered immune response, and environmental factors may play a role in the initiation and progression of the disease. Its pharmacological treatment remains unsatisfactory. Aim: To assess the possible protective effect of Naftidrofuryl oxalate (NFT) (praxilene) on intestinal epithelial cells in acetic acid (AA)-induced UC model in rats. Materials and Methods: sixty female …
