Helminths Of The Shrew-Mole Neürotrichus Gibbsii (Baird) In Oregon, Robert L. Rausch

Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications

Helminths of the shrew-mole from Oregon are described. They include a cestode Hymenolepis neurotrichi sp. n., a trematode Microphallus aspalacis sp. n., and the third-stage larva of an undetermined species of Porrocaecum (nematode), probably P. depressum (Zeder, 1800), or P. angusticolle (Molin, 1860). Preserved viscera of ten animals were examined. Three were infected.

Light Horses, M. E. Ensminger Nov 1962

Light Horses, M. E. Ensminger

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

Light horses stand 14-2 to 17 hands high, weigh 900 to 1,400 pounds, and are used primarily for, riding, driving, or racing, or for utility purposes on the farm. Light horses generally are more rangy and are capable of more action and greater speed than draft horses.

Increasing interest is being shown in light horses. Today, there are 2¼ million horses in this country, of which 1.8 million are light horses. It is further estimated that 433,000 light horses are suburban-owned. About 250,000 horses are registered in a light horse breed registry.

Saddle clubs and 4-H horse clubs are growing …

Effect Of 9 Α-Fluorohydrocortisone Acetate On Gastric And Salivary Electrolytes Of Normal Fasting Subjects, Ardis Stern Beckner Sep 1962

Effect Of 9 Α-Fluorohydrocortisone Acetate On Gastric And Salivary Electrolytes Of Normal Fasting Subjects, Ardis Stern Beckner

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The effect of 9α-FF on the Na:K ratio, chloride, and pH of saliva and gastric secretions, and on the total and free acid of gastric juice in normal human subjects was investigated. This study was designed to investigate whether conditions could be produced in the normal human subject similar to those present in patients with primary aldosteronism by using large doses of 9α-FF. August and others found a change in salivary electrolytes when cortisone, desoxycortisone, or ACTH were given to normal subjects. In these cases as in primary aldosteronism there was a decreased Na:K ratio and potassium excretion, with sodium …

Program Planning : An In-State Training Manual For Extension Agents Working With Indian People In The Dakotas, John D. Photiadis

SDSU Extension Circulars

This is part II of a study undertaken to improve the effectiveness of Extension educational programs with the Indian people of South Dakota. Part I summarizes the research accumulated over the years on the Dakota Indian- Dr. Vernon Malan analyzes these research findings in terms of a social system ( "The Dakota Indian Social System," South Dakota Extension Circular 606). The second part of the study, reported in this publication, deals with the principles of program planning and their adaptation to Extension educational work with the Indian people of the Dakotas. It is concerned with the process of change and …

Feeding The Dairy Herd, Ervin Kurtz, Hollis Hall, Howard Voelker Aug 1962

Feeding The Dairy Herd, Ervin Kurtz, Hollis Hall, Howard Voelker

SDSU Extension Circulars

Dairy cows, in order to make milk in large quantities, must be supplied with liberal amounts of the raw material from which milk can be made. That means good feed. The average production of South Dakota milk cows for 1961 was 5,700 pounds of milk and 205 pounds of butterfat. Much of this relatively low production is due to poor feed and lack of enough feed. Production and feed records shown in table 5 reveal that one way to get increased production is to give the cows more feed. Feed is the greatest single item of expense in producing milk. It …

The Effect Of Infection With Polyoma Virus On The Protein, Rna, And Dna Of Mouse Embryo Cell Cultures, Lawrence E. Mcconnehey Aug 1962

The Effect Of Infection With Polyoma Virus On The Protein, Rna, And Dna Of Mouse Embryo Cell Cultures, Lawrence E. Mcconnehey

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

In four separate experiments mouse embryo cell monolayers infected with polyoma virus and uninfected control mouse embryo cells were maintained in Eagle’s Minimum Essential Medium for periods of time ranging from 0 to 168 hours. The cell layers were removed from the glass by trypsinization. Samples of the cells were counted in a Coulter Counter and the remainder of the cells frozen after centrifugation, in a button. Later, the buttons were thawed and protein, RNA, and DNA analyses were performed on each sample. The micrograms per million cells of protein. RNA, and DNA were determined for each sample and plotted …
