In a few instances an agricultural problem lend itself well to research into some of the more basic aspects of a problem as well as to research to determine the exact nature of the problem ad to prescribe a cure. Such a problem was found by the author to exist on a soil of the Twin Falls, Idaho area. Besides making an attempt to ascertain the exact nature of the problem, an experiment was set up in an attempt to understand more about the mechanism responsible for the problem.

Body weight is fast becoming the major health problem in the United States. Recent estimates of the number of weight conscious people in the United States are now up to 75 million. One year ago the estimate of overweight individuals was 60 million Americans who were overweight or should be concerned about watching their weight. There are also two million known diabetics who must control their disease and body weight by a restricted caloric intake.
A Study Of A Bacterial Cause Of The Late Gas Defect In Cheddar Cheese, Rulon A. Chappell
A Study Of A Bacterial Cause Of The Late Gas Defect In Cheddar Cheese, Rulon A. Chappell
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
More of the manufacturing milk purchased from Utah's dairy farms is used for the production of cheese than for any other product. Approximately eleven and one-half million pounds of cheese were produced in Utah in 1959, of which more than half was cheddar. Many problems are encountered in the production of A-grade cheddar cheese. One of the most important causes of the reduction in grade is the late gas defect which accounts for about 50 percent of the cheese grading below A-grade. To increase the percentage of A-grade cheddar cheese in Utah, the late gas problem should be solved. The …
The Influence Of Internal Moisture Deficit On Translocation, Sven Egenolf Wihrheim
The Influence Of Internal Moisture Deficit On Translocation, Sven Egenolf Wihrheim
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The reduced growth of plants under conditions of moisture stress has been attributed to reduced turgor necessary for cell enlargement and to reduced photosynthesis often found in wilted or moisture stressed plants. Reduced translocation is rarely mentioned as a factor in reduced plant growth under limited moisture. This is rather surprising, since the Münch pressure flow hypothesis would require a turgor pressure gradient between leaves and receiving organs before any translocation of sugars could occur. Such a turgor pressure gradient would be reduced with increasing internal moisture deficit and would appear to become zero when the leaves wilt. If this …
The Use Of The Calculated Frequency Spectra For Body-Centered Cubic Lattices, Clifton Bob Clark
The Use Of The Calculated Frequency Spectra For Body-Centered Cubic Lattices, Clifton Bob Clark
Journal of the Graduate Research Center
A method is described by which the frequency spectra previously reported by the author, may be used to calculate lattice specific heats. Values for parameters required in this method are given for the 18 histograms previously reported. A sample calculation for a hypothetical substance is described, and the results are given.
An Etymological Note On The Tribal Name Of The Cherokees And Certain Place And Proper Names Derived From Cherokee, Jack Frederick Kilpatrick
An Etymological Note On The Tribal Name Of The Cherokees And Certain Place And Proper Names Derived From Cherokee, Jack Frederick Kilpatrick
Journal of the Graduate Research Center
It would appear that a disproportionately large number of Cherokee place and proper names have been designated in the literature as of unknown origin ( usually with a strong inference of irreclaimability), or else have been inaccurately translated. There even exists an uncertainty as to the derivation of the name of the tribe itself. The present object of the author is to advance certain probable, or at least possible etymologies either suggested, or in some measure sanctioned, by individuals among the Oklahoma Cherokees who possess a command of the Cherokee language.

A Survey Of Parasitism In A Population Of Pigeons, Robert Flynn Jochen
A Survey Of Parasitism In A Population Of Pigeons, Robert Flynn Jochen
Master's Theses
Numerous papers relative to parasites in pigeons can be found in the literature, but information concerning parasitic infections in pigeons of Virginia is scant, and no survey of parasitism has been made. Furthermore, no one survey or parasitism in pigeons of North America has included the incidence of both ectoparasites and endoparasites. Information relative to the incidence of individual parasites or groups of parasites, however, is available in recent literature, as well as information concerning isolated cases of parasitism
The present study was undertaken to (1) determine the nature and extent of parasitism in a population of pigeons in Henrico …

The Bumblebees Of Nebraska, Wallace E. Laberge, Morgan C. Webb
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
The purpose of this paper is to provide a ready means of identifying bumblebees found in Nebraska. It is for both amateur and professional entomologists. Included are an annotated list of the bumblebees found in Nebraska, artificial keys for species determination, a glossary for those not acquainted with the terminology used in the keys, a list of flower preferences and biological notes pertaining to bumblebees in Nebraska. The keys for identification include a few species of bumblebees which have not yet been collected in Nebraska but which may occur in the state.

The Rate Of Weakening Of Paper Due To An Applied Stress, Emmett F. Finley
The Rate Of Weakening Of Paper Due To An Applied Stress, Emmett F. Finley
Paper Engineering Senior Theses
Introduction
When a load is applied to a sheet of paper, the paper may break immediately or it may support the load for some period of time. It is recognized that the paper, while under a stress less than that required to cause immediate break, is weakened until it is finally unable to support the stress. Since in the normal use of paper the stress to which paper is subjected is less than that needed to cause immediate break this weakening is an important factor in many cases.
A few examples of such cases are the winding of the paper …

A Simple Feeding Guide : Balanced Rations For Dairy Cows, K Needham
A Simple Feeding Guide : Balanced Rations For Dairy Cows, K Needham
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
MANY technical articles have been written on the nutrition of dairy cattle and the methods employed in compounding a balanced ration have often been explained.
This article aims to present the principles of compounding a balanced ration in a simplified form, and suggests rations which should be easily adopted on any dairy farm.
Non-Parasitic Diseases Of Potatoes, S C. Chambers
Non-Parasitic Diseases Of Potatoes, S C. Chambers
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
POTATO tubers are subject to several non-parasitic diseases which are induced by unfavourable environmental conditions.
These disorders often cause considerable loss of marketable tubers, but in some instances this can be avoided by correct cultural, handling, or storage methods.

Hints On Chicken Rearing, P Smetana
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
For the next few months poultry farmers will once again be concerned with rearing chickens.
A good brooder, ample space, good sanitation, plenty of water and a balanced feed are still the essentials of successful chicken raising, says P. Smetana, B.Sc. (Agric), Acting Officer-in-Charge of the Poultry Branch.

List Of Registered Stock Foods And Stock Licks : 1962-63, H G. Cariss
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
All foods for stock sold in Western Australia are required by the Feeding Stuffs Act, 1928-1955, to be registered annually with the Department of Agriculture.
For the purposes of the Act, "Food for Stock" includes stock licks, which in turn embrace all preparations claimed to supply or primarily intended to supply mineral matter to stock.
