This article details the processing of the LaVerne Harrell Clark Photographic Collection by University of Arizona Poetry Center librarians, archivists, and interns, and the current status and next steps of the collection. The LaVerne Harrell Clark Photographic Collection, which contains thousands of portraits and candids of poets taken circa 1960-2000 by LaVerne Harrell Clark, the Poetry Center’s first director, is deeply entwined with the Poetry Center’s institutional identity. In addition, the authors explored ways in which the collection and the institution as a whole are positioned as uniquely Western and also of national significance. The Library Committee is a requirement of the RGH Medical/Dental Staff and is facilitated by Dr. Scott Schabel. After RGH and Unity merged, the Libraries formed one department and expanded access and services to all RRH sites. The Library committee, composed of staff from across the health system, provide feedback and share library news with their teams. The committee meets 2x/year via Zoom.

This report highlights library activity from 2023.

Best of Core Forum webinar series

The BYU Library has created an Inclusive Metadata Policy for metadata creators to use when creating and remediating descriptions to be more inclusive. Accompanying the policy is a companion document with recommendations and examples, including links to many external resources. In addition to working with stakeholders in the library to develop the policy, we consulted with the University’s Office of Belonging. This presentation describes the process we used to undertake the creation of the library policy and recommendations document.

This paper examines the values of privacy and confidentiality in libraries. Maintenance of privacy is arguably costly, yet protecting it is essential to maintain the library mission of providing free access to information. Through a review of secondary sources, the paper considers the shift from the library as primarily a physical space with physical materials to the library as a repository of digital materials with high levels of online library patron engagement. Nat and Evan have experimented with a new approach to data visualization using Dall-E 3, an image generation tool. The goal has been to create data illustrations, like charts, but using images. The development of information and communication technology has become the prominent reason for language contact in the native language varieties spoken in the South Asian region. The island nation Sri Lanka is home to a multi-ethnic population and the main vernacular spoken in the country is Sinhala Language. Using materials drawn from social media platforms, websites, internet forums and personal knowledge, this study sets out to examine the ways in which the English language has been making significant contact with the Sinhala language, which is the dominant vernacular language spoken in Sri Lanka due to the advancements in information technology. …

Leadership For Social Change: Clara Whitehill Hunt And The Evolution Of Children’S Librarianship, Suzanne Marie Stauffer

The first generation of children’s librarians, who created the profession in the late-19th and early-20th centuries, were followed by a second generation who enlarged, expanded, and refined the scope of the collection. One of these women was Clara Whitehill Hunt, Superintendent of Work with Children for the Brooklyn Public Library from 1903 to 1940. In addition to developing training courses for children’s librarians, she wrote Library Work with Children for the A.L.A. Manuals of Library Economy series, The Bookshelf for Boys and Girls, a catalog of recommended children’s books and The First Three Hundred Books for the Children’s Library. For …

Fy24 Usability Program Test #4: Assessing Perceptions Of Research Consultations, Lindsey Skaggs

The FY24 Usability Testing Program was designed to iteratively assess user experience at Milner Library. The program gathers data through usability testing of the library's website and discovery layer, as well as survey questions about users' experiences with library services. Test #4 gathers information from library users about their perceptions of research consultations to inform service development. Takeaways and recommendations are included in the report.
