Many leaders are inclined to sacrifice their own time, focus, and emotional well-being for the benefit of their colleagues and institutions, particularly in times of social, financial, and political uncertainty. This poster presents the preliminary results of a nationwide survey on self-sacrifice among academic library leaders. The goal of this research is to quantify the phenomenon of self-sacrifice to better understand how this behavior manifests and address the potential harms that it can cause.  Based on literature and survey data, the researchers present their initial recommendations for mitigating self-sacrificial behavior as a way to encourage retention within academic library leadership …

This chapter traces the evolution of archival appraisal theory and practice in the United States, situating it within shifting technological, social, and intellectual contexts from the late nineteenth century to the present. In this roughly chronological account, the chapter underscores continuity and disruption in selecting and appraising archival records. It highlights the influence and ongoing critiques of Theodore Schellenberg’s evidential and informational values, as well as subsequent expansions by Maynard Britchford and others. [Purpose/significance] This paper analyzes the relevant literature in the field of AI for Science（AI4S）in the WoS core database from 2015 to 2024, and sorts out the research status and development trends in this field, aiming to provide forward-looking insights for the application of AI technology in scientific research.

[Method/process] This paper combines bibliometric analysis with the BERTopic model to analyze the publication trends, publishing countries, core authors, and topic identification and development trends in the field of AI4S.

Beyond The Call Of Duty: Exploring The Prevalence And Consequences Of Self-Sacrifice By Academic Library Leaders, Kate Tallman, Susan R. Franzen

In the face of limited resources and increasing demand, academic library supervisors often  sacrifice their own time and energy to support employees’ well-being. Self-sacrificial  behavior includes taking on additional responsibilities, being especially “visible” during  crises, and supporting the emotional, physical, or financial needs of employees. Most research on self-sacrificial leadership highlights its positive impact on organizational  culture. But how does it impact library leaders’ mental health, job satisfaction, and/or  attrition? This presentation explores self-sacrificial behavior and concludes with a  discussion of strategies to reset the balance when leaders find themselves going above  and beyond at their own expense.

What’S In A Name? Re-Evaluating Early Medical Library Leaders In A Modern Context, Jennifer K. Lloyd

This paper will highlight two early medical librarians, Mary Louise Marshall (1893-1986) and William D. Postell, Sr (1908-1982) who were in our chapter’s region, although during their careers, SCC did not exist. While we cannot expect that historical figures have the same knowledge and values as our contemporary colleagues, we can evaluate their writings to see what internal biases were present.

Critically reappraising the work of our predecessors can be a difficult task, especially if these individuals were held in high esteem, won national awards and published important papers about medical librarianship. However, as theories are repudiated, re-evaluation is key. …

The Anchor: 2025

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Identifying And Understanding The Barriers To Sexual Health Information Seeking Experienced By Young Adults (Ages 18-26) Using Social Media, Alexander Nicolas Vera

This dissertation uses a qualitative, constructionist approach to examine the sociotechnical and cultural dynamics that shape digital sexual health-seeking practices of young adults. Guided by information practices and affordance theory, the research draws on semi-structured interviews and digital walkthroughs with 20 young adults (ages 18–26) from a convenience sample of young adults residing in South Carolina. Participants described how they use platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Reddit not only to locate information but to assess its trustworthiness, inclusivity, and personal relevance in real time. Many academic libraries maintain dataset catalogs to make the research data produced by their institutions more findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR). These catalogs use a variety of approaches to gather metadata for dataset records and may be hosted on one of several platforms. Our approach is to develop Python code and leverage APIs to locate relevant datasets, then harvest and clean the associated metadata. The cleaned metadata is manually curated and enhanced before being added to the Dataset Catalog. We employ the hosted institutional repository Digital Commons to display the dataset records. Wade in June 2022, the author saw a need for an assessment of her institutional library’s collection of resources about reproductive and sexual health, especially on topics related to abortion and birth control. Associatively, the Dynamic Social Impact theory (DSIT) can effectively demonstrate the convergence of labor, culture and service in connection with Black labor and cultural taxation within the productivity sector. One of the four patterns identified in DSIT indicates that minority groups within a larger culture can be found to be both isolated and vibrant. This isolation allows minority influence to persist. To such an extent that certain marginalized, underrepresented people in the productivity field often face underlying stressors that disproportionately affect their health and overall well-being.
