A Review Of Key Developments In The Scholar Project, Roger A. Lohmann
A Review Of Key Developments In The Scholar Project, Roger A. Lohmann
Faculty & Staff Scholarship
The Scholar Project was my term for a variety of projects and developmental efforts to incorporate the use of computers into the everyday work life of a graduate social work faculty member before the advent of desktop computing. It began in 1974 with a variety of experiments with SPSS files, McBee "KeySort" Cards, and a Computer Aided Instruction experiment with IBM's Coursewriter software. It evolved into the full-scale integration of electronic equipment into all facets of my professional life. The Scholar bibliography mentioned, the electronic in this Research Repository, and the Docuverse project are the longest lasting products of this …

The Anchor: 1987
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

The Effects Of Storytelling Experiences On Vocabulary Skills Of Second Grade Students, Gail E. Froyen
The Effects Of Storytelling Experiences On Vocabulary Skills Of Second Grade Students, Gail E. Froyen
Graduate Research Papers
Subjects were 40 second grade students from Lowell School, Waterloo, IA. The students met for 14 weekly forty minute sessions where they heard folktales, learned folktales to tell, and told or listened to each other tell folktales. All second grade students were tested with the ITBS Primary Battery in October 1986 (pre-test) and the subjects took the post-test in April, 1987.
The null hypothesis stated there would be no significant difference in standard scores at p<.05 using as pre-and post-tests ITBS Primary Test V-Vocabulary when compared using NCE's to the national norms of that test. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference at the p<.005 level. Therefore, the hypothesis was rejected

The Portrayal Of Children’S Emotional Reactions To Divorce In Middle-Level Fiction, Janyce A. Struthers Hancock

A content analysis of eighteen novels for readers in grad•• five through nine was conducted to investigate the portrayal of children's emotional reactions to their parents' divorce. Changes In Cooperation Among Selected Schools And Public Libraries In Iowa, Patricia Ann Ipsen
Changes In Cooperation Among Selected Schools And Public Libraries In Iowa, Patricia Ann Ipsen
Graduate Research Papers
The results of this study may indicate that while Iibrary professionals in Iowa view cooperation as a desirable goal, there is little formal activity between and among school and public libraries. The attendance at state sponsored workshops may have little effect on actual practice in the 18 communities which participated In the ICEMS program. There may be increased cooperative activity in those communities which made some attempts prior to the workshops. However, these activities tend to be fairly traditional and conservative. In communities new to the idea, the participants may be open to change, but psychological and physical barriers may …

Literature Of The Vietnam War: An Annotated Bibliography, Hope E. Degner Hix
Graduate Research Papers
The interest In the Vietnam War is Increasing after years of being ignored. The body of literature about the Vietnam War is growing rapidly. Using this literature in high school courses to study the war is encouraged. Using literature to study a historical event personalizes it for the students.
The researcher read 45 novels and personal narratives about the Vietnam War. Each novel was tested for four values and inclusion of stereotyped secondary characteristics. One or more of the following values was present in 80 percent of the works: American involvement was wrong, American commanders were incompetent, South Vietnamese soldiers …
Artifical Intelligence, Expert Systems, And Archival Automation, Peter B. Hirtle
Artifical Intelligence, Expert Systems, And Archival Automation, Peter B. Hirtle
Provenance, Journal of the Society of Georgia Archivists
The success of archival automation during the past two decades cannot be questioned. From the development of the SPINDEX (Selective Permentation Indexing) program at the National Archives, through the work of the National Information Systems Task Force (NISTF) committee, to the development of the MARC AMC (MAchine Readable Cataloging, Archives and Manuscripts Control) format, automation's progress, while perhaps slow in comparison to the library profession, has been sure.

Library Service In Iowa Juvenile Correctional Institutions Compared With National Standards Prepared By The American Correctional Association, Ellen Youds
Graduate Research Papers
This study was done to determine the extent to which the two juvenile correctional institution libraries in Iowa met selected standards from Library Standards for Juvenile Correctional Institutions, prepared by the American Correctional Association. The hypothesis of the study was that neither of the institutions would meet 50% or more of the selected standards.
The two librarians completed a questionnaire and were also interviewed. The library at Eldora met over 50% of the selected standards. The librarian is a member of the educational and planning team. This facilitates the meeting of many of the standards. The library at Toledo met …
