The Social Costs Of Incompetence: An Educator's View, A. Wayne Mackay Mar 1982

The Social Costs Of Incompetence: An Educator's View, A. Wayne Mackay

Dalhousie Law Journal

After my plucked out eyes had withered and new ones grown, something my former eyes had wept for came asking to be pitied. 2 The above quotation has been applied to lawyers and in particular the process of legal education. It is a distressing thought for anyone who cares about the law and considers it a worthy profession. Must people sever hands that can rock and pluck out eyes that can pity in order to become …

The Andragogical Basis Of Clinical Legal Education, Frank S. Bloch Mar 1982

The Andragogical Basis Of Clinical Legal Education, Frank S. Bloch

Vanderbilt Law Review

Clinical legal education offers law students the opportunity to work together with faculty on cases that present the types of problems which law students want to learn how to solve. Andragogical theory holds that adult learners such as law students should be taught through mutual inquiry between teacher and student, through the use of actual experience, and with the recognition that students are ready and oriented to learn about that which they perceive to be relevant to their current social roles and professional goals. Private Lawyers And Public Responsibilities, Carl Mcgowan Dec 1981

Private Lawyers And Public Responsibilities, Carl Mcgowan

Michigan Law Review

A half-century ago when this Law Quadrangle was conceived and constructed, it was surely an act of faith on the part of its wise and generous donor. So it was also of this University which undertook the challenge to make of his vision a reality - to provide, in the most magnificent plant for legal education this country has ever seen, instruction in the law and constant refinement of its ideals worthy of the most rigorous traditions of the higher learning.

Law For Everyone For The Librarian, Hugh M. Kindred May 1981

Law For Everyone For The Librarian, Hugh M. Kindred

Dalhousie Law Journal

The problem raised by this subject is one of access to the law.' Encapsulated in my title, Law for Everyone For the Librarian, are three components: the law; the reader with a problem; and you, the librarian. The issue is essentially how to bring the three together, and in my judgment the librarian is the critical link. The equipment you need I have divided into four elements, which I will pose to you as questions: What are the resources? Where are they? How do you get at them? and How can you use them to the reader's benefit?
