University of Richmond Law Review
The court-martial and premeditated murder conviction of First Lieutenant William L. Calley, Jr., for his participation in the My Lai Massacre on March 16, 1968, was one of the most controversial criminal trials, either military or civilian, in the history of this nation. Although the trial brought to the surface many troubling aspects of this country's conduct of the Vietnam War, the primary focus of the controversy centered on the question of whether an American soldier should be held criminally accountable for his participation in the mass execution of unarmed and unresisting men, women, children and babies taken captive by …

Marriage as we know it in America is undergoing rigorous re-examination and even hostile attack in the last third of the twentieth century in part because of the doubt expressed in some quarters that this venerable institution meets the psychological and sociological needs of the mass of men and women. And since, as one wag has put it, marriage is the "cause" of divorce, one can expect great ferment in the area of divorce law as well. Such is in fact the case. The legislatures, the prime source of divorce law, after a period of neglect sometimes going back to …

Overcriminalization And Washington's Revised Criminal Code, Arval A. Morris
Washington Law Review
The Proposed Code is comprehensive, and when one adds the criminal provisions in other chapters of the Revised Code of Washington that will not be affected by the Proposed Code, it becomes obvious that Washington's criminal law does not suffer from the defect of failing to embrace and protect vital human concerns. These vital concerns are not denuded of the protection of the criminal law. To the contrary, the comprehensiveness of the Code raises opposite sorts of questions. Thus, the chief purpose of this article is to render a service of constructive criticism. It will focus on several areas of …

Recent Developments In The Law Of The Seas Iii: A Synopis, G. Edward Arledge, Allan A. Nadir, Robert L. O'Connell
San Diego Law Review
This third synopsis is part of our continuing effort to present annually a summary of legally significant events of relevance to the law of the seas. This synopsis encompasses events which occurred between March 1, 1971, and February 1, 1972. Primary resources utilized included the New York Times, the Environment Reporter, the United States Code Congressional and Administrative News and the Congressional Record. The almost daily incidence of new developments evidences the growth of concern at local, national and international levels for rational planning in the use and development of the ocean and its resources. With the approach of the …
