Even the most casual observer should be aware that we are living through a period of intense interest by law professors in the behavioral sciences. No volume of the Journalof Legal Education is published without at least one essay on a law school program, a design for cooperative research or a criticism of the lawyers for paying no heed to their more scientific brethren. A review of A.A.I.S. convention agendas would indicate, I am sure, very few meetings without some discussion of "Law and the Behavioral Sciences."' When a lawyer attempts to discuss the subject of cancer, he finds himself in the position of the nursery rhyme figures, Winken, Blinken and Nod, who attempted to sail a stormy, turbulent sea in a frail washtub. How does the lawyer feel with respect to the medical questions presented by the problem of relation of an isolated trauma to cancer? My legal colleagues disagree violently amongst themselves. I approach the entire subject with humility.

It is amazing how little attention is paid by the trial lawyer to the enormous impact of traumatic injuries upon the human body. Generally, the trial lawyer is content with a woefully inadequate knowledge about the body, and the meaning of but a few medical terms. It is the purpose of this article to arouse the interest of those previously immune to the suggestions of the importance of a fuller knowledge of this subject and to point the way toward those wonderful repositories of information that should beknown by all. Comparative law, like comparative government in general,' has largely confined itself to unintegrated descriptions of European legal principles. Not only has comparative law traditionally been limited in its subject matter, but it also has rarely, if ever, made use of statistical techniques in accounting for the differences observed. It is the purpose of this paper to analyze statistically the relations between industrialism, democracy, and collectivism on the one hand and the judicial process on the other in ten different societies.

The Ethical Foundation For The Pragmatic Conception Of Justice, Anton Donoso

Since the death of John Dewey ten years ago, his thought has been the subject of a number of works, some of the most significant of which deal with his philosophy of law and of justice. The question of his conception of justice arises out of his general effort to show that the resolution of moral conflicts between various claimants is possible by the use of the scientific method, by which is meant intelligent examination justified by reliable public test through reference to consequences.
