This article presents an analysis of those provisions of the MMPA which may impede the achievement of FCMA objectives. It is important that these possible conflicts be resolved because while the United States controls off the coast of Alaska what may be the world's largest resources of fish, these same waters contain enormous numbers of marine mammals. These fishery resources, if managed rationally, can make a large contribution to the economy of the United States and to the protein needs of the world. A reasonable accommodation between the MMPA and the FCMA must be found in order to achieve that …

The basic purpose of this article is to examine that area of the law which deals with adoption by step-parents. In particular, the law of Nova Scotia and British Columbia will be considered. The approach taken will be to focus on the relevant statute law and selected cases which deal with the subject under scrutiny. Reference will also be made to recent developments in the law relating to adoption in England. Additionally, the latter part of this paper will deal with some alternatives to the granting of adoptions to step-parents. Whether or not the United States may someday face a mineral shortage, the need for a coherent, unified minerals policy is critical to national objectives and national security. Deep-sea mining may be the answer to American (and world) mineral needs in the twenty-first century. However, there are numerous problems which must be dealt with and resolved in the near future, in order to enable the U.S. (and the world community) to take advantage of vast undersea resources. During the late 1960's and early 1970's several significant pieces of environmental legislation were enacted. These pieces of legislation were designed to restore, improve, preserve and protect our natural resources. The legislation with the most impact on the United State Navy and Naval vessels has been the Federal Water Pollution Control Act. In order to meet the statutory requirements of the Clean Water Act, the United States Navy had to embark on a program to: modify existing vessels with Marine Sanitation Devices (MSD's) and install such devices on new construction ships.

Following the enactment of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 dealing with equal opportunity and employment discrimination, there arose a large body of case-law litigating Title VII issues and a large body of articles dissecting the cases and issues. Within this area, different methods for proving Title VII violations and different types of defenses developed. Almost inevitably, confusion arose concerning the applicability of specific defenses to specific types of Title VII violations. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals attempted to resolve some of this confusion in a sex discrimination case captioned Burwell v. Eastern Airlines, Inc. In …
