Optimization Of Reaction Conditions For Synthesizing Kasa-Targeting Drug Candidates For Tuberculosis Treatment, Megan A. Baxter
Optimization Of Reaction Conditions For Synthesizing Kasa-Targeting Drug Candidates For Tuberculosis Treatment, Megan A. Baxter
Research and Creativity Symposium
Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health challenge, with increasing drug resistance pressing for the development of novel treatments. KasA, a key enzyme in mycobacterial fatty acid biosynthesis, is a promising drug target for TB treatment. This research focuses on the design and synthesis of potential KasA inhibitors, specifically optimizing reaction conditions to efficiently produce 1-methyl-6-aminoindazole. This molecule is an intermediate in the synthesis of drugs targeting TB. Characterization of synthesized compounds is performed using NMR, mass spectrometry, and gas chromatography to confirm structure and purity. The first step involved optimizing the solvent and base for the methylation of nitroindazole. We …
From Prison To Community: Challenges Of Recidivism In The United States, Kellie R. Parks
From Prison To Community: Challenges Of Recidivism In The United States, Kellie R. Parks
Master of Arts in Human Services
Recidivism among adult females in the United States is often an overlooked and under analyzed aspect of the justice system. Women criminals encounter unique challenges and often need distinct rehabilitative needs while incarcerated and following release. This paper explores the many factors contributing to recidivism in adult females including mental health challenges, biological, neurologic and social factors. It provides insight into how lower recidivism rates can be achieved by adapting other reform measures such as education programs.

The Inner Blueprint: Unlocking Your 24/7 Potential, Mackenzie Zurcher, Becky King
Spring 2025 OTD Capstone Symposium
Inner Blueprint is a trauma-informed, occupation-based intervention designed to address the complex needs of adolescent girls with histories of trauma, substance use, and mental health conditions. Grounded in occupational science, the program emphasizes the integration of brain function, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and hormonal influence to promote self-awareness, resilience, identity development, self-worth, and functional independence. The intervention incorporates manualized content delivered through interactive group activities, reflective exercises, and routine-based skill building to support gains in emotional regulation, self-concept development, and daily life performance. A central therapeutic emphasis is placed on enhancing interoceptive awareness and empowering participants to recognize that their …

The Biomedical Ethics Of Palliative Psychiatry In Anorexia Nervosa Patients, Mikayla Decesare
Fisher Showcase 2025
My presentation is going to be created from the extensive research paper that I am writing on the biomedical ethics of palliative psychiatry in patients specifically with Anorexia Nervosa. The paper as well as the presentation will explore ethical frameworks that can be applied to this medical practice by diving into case studies, looking at arguments of people currently in the field, analyzing what criteria needs to be taken into account, and more. This Keystone was added to the Biomedical Ethics course I am taking this semester so the audience is my classmates. However, this presentation is also tailored to …

Structural Insights Into The Function, Dysfunction And Modulation Of Kv3 Channels, Manuel Covarrubias, Qiansheng Liang, Linh Nguyen-Phuong, Kyle J. Kennedy, Tyler D. Alexander, Ms, Andrew Sam
Department of Neuroscience Faculty Papers
The third subfamily of voltage-gated K+ (Kv) channels includes four members, Kv3.1, Kv3.2, Kv3.3 and Kv3.4. Fast gating and activation at relatively depolarized membrane potentials allows Kv3 channels to be major drivers of fast action potential repolarization in the nervous system. Consequently, they help determine the fast-spiking phenotype of inhibitory interneurons and regulate fast synaptic transmission at glutamatergic synapses and the neuromuscular junction. Recent studies from our group and a team of collaborators have used cryo-EM to demonstrate the surprising gating role of the Kv3.1 cytoplasmic T1 domain, the structural basis of a developmental epileptic encephalopathy caused by the …
Optimizing Hydrogel Performance Composed Of Japanese Pagoda Tree Extract Loaded-Gelatin-Sodium Alginate-Polyethylene Oxide For Biomedical Applications: Influence Incorporated Calcium-Based Metal Organic Frameworks And Zinc Oxide Nps, Samar A. Salim
Nanotechnology Research Centre
Gelatin/sodium alginate/polyethylene oxide hydrogel was synthesized by self-gelation method and utilized to achieve enhanced mechanical strength. Japanese pagoda, tree extracts rich in flavonoids and isoflavonoids was incorporated to enhance tissue repair along with ZnO-NPs to provide the hydrogel with necessary antimicrobial and other desirable biological properties. The inclusion of Ca-BDC MOF enhanced hydrogel matrix by providing more surface area and the presence of calcium ion needed for tissue regeneration. Results revealed that composite hydrogel displayed suitable gelation time and swelling rate that was further improved by incorporating the plant extract, ZnO-NPs, and Ca-BDC MOF. The efficacy of the tested formulations …

Prenatal Development, Huda Abu-Suwa, Lisa K. Lashley, Charles J. Golden
Essays in Developmental Psychology
Prenatal refers to the period of time between conception and birth. As such, prenatal development is the process in which a fetus develops in its mother’s womb. This period typically lasts nine months. Prenatal development can be divided into three stages: the germinal stage, the embryonic stage, and the fetal stage (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019).

Advances In Environmental Food Science : A Case Study Of The Key Laboratory Of Environmental Food Science , Ministry Of Education, Quan Tuo, Li Bin, Ren Jingnan
Food and Machinery
Both the environment and food have important impacts on human health. However, research on the macro -level patterns and micro -level mechanisms of their complex interactions affecting health remains limited.Environmental food science, centered on the scientific theme of coupling "environment -food" with "health",conducts systematic research on dietary behaviors and health -related scientific and technological issues across diverse spatiotemporal environments. It represents a newly emerging interdisciplinary direction within food science. This paper reviews the research trajectory and progress in understanding the relationships among environment, food, and health, evolving from the "binary relationship" between environment and food to the "ternary relationship" among environment, food, and health.Taking the research achievements of the key …

Food and Machinery
[Objective] To explore the mechanism underlying perception of texture of starch -containing thickened fluids by α-amylase in saliva.[Methods] This work characterizes the rheological and textural properties of a starch -containing thickened fluid in the presence of authentic saliva or artificial saliva containing α-amylase.[Results]] Dynamic rheological test results show that the presence of α-amylase in saliva can reduce the viscoelasticity of the starch -containing thickened fluid, and the loss factor of the gel system increases with an increase in the concentration of α-amylase.Static rheological test results reveal that α-amylase enhances both the apparent viscosity coefficient K and the thixotropic loop area of …
