Feminism And The Legalization Of Prostitution: How Far Down The River?, Marilyn C. Zilli Apr 1974

Feminism And The Legalization Of Prostitution: How Far Down The River?, Marilyn C. Zilli

IUSTITIA

One of the most telling issues on the state of the women's movement today is that of the legalization of prostitution. It would be inappropriate to say that the issue has caused a breach in the ranks: the term is inapplicable to a movement which has never claimed coherency and which has, in fact, consistently demonstrated an inability to reconcile the views of its various factions. The prostitution issue is important, rather, precisely because it underscores these differences of analysis and tactics which have appeared in other areas and the splits between white middle class liberal women, radical feminists, marxist …

Present Status Of Women In Professional Athletics, Debra Gaber Apr 1974

Present Status Of Women In Professional Athletics, Debra Gaber

IUSTITIA

The life of a female professional athlete in many ways seems undesirable. Attitudinal pressures and societal demands coupled with the rigors of competitive sport make a female pro's life draining, if not oppressive. On the outside there may appear a gleam of happiness as a photographer catches a pro in action during her moment of glory. Magazine articles assume by inference that being "number one" is glamorous and highly desirable. It does mark a tremendous achievement in an athlete's life, but for a female athlete, "getting there" is almost a nightmare. No female professional is without some battle scars.

Our …

The Fairness Doctrine And Pro-Natalism In Television, Myra Spicker Apr 1974

The Fairness Doctrine And Pro-Natalism In Television, Myra Spicker

IUSTITIA

It is a premise of this paper that television reflects a pro-natalist bias in its promotion of the traditional female role in society, and that such bias is evident in both commercial advertisements as well as in dramatic presentations particularly on daytime television. Those who are opposed to a pro-natalist point of view will find it virtually impossible to air their opposition effectively. At best anti-natalist groups may be able to garner only meager financial resources to air spot commercials, but this is hardly adequate to combat the subtle onslaught of the opposition. Suggestions have been made that pro-natalist attitudes …

The Court, The Constitution, And Chief Justice Burger, William F. Swindler Apr 1974

The Court, The Constitution, And Chief Justice Burger, William F. Swindler

Vanderbilt Law Review

Although the constitutional crisis of 1973 has not yet demanded a definitive response from the Supreme Court, it obviously has established a landmark in the ultimate history of Warren Burger's Chief Justiceship. While the unprecedented confrontation between executive and judiciary was not carried beyond the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Burger's old court,' and although the prospective confrontation between executive and Congress did not--at least in its first round-- reach a stage of review on the merits, the questions presented went to the cornerstones of Anglo-American constitutional theory itself. The case of Vice President Agnew raised issues …

The Patient Rights Advocate: Redefining The Doctor-Patient Relationship In The Hospital Context, George J. Annas, Joseph M. Healey, Jr. Mar 1974

The Patient Rights Advocate: Redefining The Doctor-Patient Relationship In The Hospital Context, George J. Annas, Joseph M. Healey, Jr.

Vanderbilt Law Review

To change the traditional doctor-patient relationship in the health facility context, one must begin with a complete statement defining the rights, both those legally recognized and those granted as a matter of hospital policy, that should be afforded to all patients. This document should then be made available to all patients and hospital staff and to members of the community in general. Its first purpose is educational. To perform its second purpose-the assurance that rights are afforded--a patient rights advocate system should be adopted in the hospital. The advocate must have the power to exercise, on behalf and at the …

Rhode Island Report On The Judiciary 1974 Jan 1974

Rhode Island Report On The Judiciary 1974

Library Archive

The report is divided into two sections. Part I reviews the structure and organization of the state courts. To some of you this review may seem superfluous. However, it has been our experience that many people who read this report find such a review useful. Part II discusses the events of 1974. This section is not meant to cover every detail of the events of the past year. The several courts in the system have been involved in a wide variety of activities in the conduct of their business. No single report can adequately document all of those activities. However, …
