Bachelors’ Theses

In considering the successful financial enterprises in the country today it is shocking to note what a small number of newspapers can be properly listed amongst them. There are proportionately more newspaper businesses operating at a loss than any other kind. Regarding the commercial value of its output each year the publishing and printing industry ranks sixth in the nation, but in credit it is at the bottom of the list.

The History Of American Literature Is The History Of The American Magazine, Regina Margaret Murphy Jun 1925

The History Of American Literature Is The History Of The American Magazine, Regina Margaret Murphy

Bachelors’ Theses

Eminent authorities are not agreed as to the origin of American literature. Some credit John Smith with contributing the nucleus to native literature, others maintain that the North American Review gave the first impetus to letters, still others make the history of American letters synonymous with the establishment of the Atlantic Monthly. These divergences of opinion exist not because the production of works is denied, but because critics do not ascribe the same relative merits to these productions, however evidence reveals the fact that American authors have been in¬ separably associated with American magazines, hence the history of American literature …

The Value Of Magazine Advertising To National Producers, Catherine M. Havlichek

Bachelors’ Theses

Many and varied have been the experiences and careers of the magazine in America. But perhaps no more colorful fact stands out than the circumstances encompassing its origin, its checkered progress, and its present development.

The Relations Of The English Periodical Essay To The Development Of The English Novel In The Eighteenth Century, Madeline Jane O'Brien Jun 1924

The Relations Of The English Periodical Essay To The Development Of The English Novel In The Eighteenth Century, Madeline Jane O'Brien

Bachelors’ Theses

The literature of the eighteenth century was outward and finite-outward in the absence of a deep penetration into the heart and mind of man; and finite in the subjects and the arbitrary laws of style and verse to which it was confined. A philosophy of sensualism, a morality of expediency and a poetry of fancy-"Creamy Smoothness"- were the main characteristics of the age.

The Psychology Of Advertising, Clarence Sievert Apr 1924

The Psychology Of Advertising, Clarence Sievert

Bachelors’ Theses

Psychology of advertising. Just what does this term mean to the average mind and what is its significance?

We speak of the psychology of advertising, politics, history, color, the mob, the crowd, imitation and many other things. The term psychology is applied in much the same way as when we speak of the 'art' of this and that thing. The art of anything concerns the way it is done and the psychology of it would refer to the affects it has on the mind of those concerned.

Psychology As Used In Advertising, Martin Lang Apr 1924

Psychology As Used In Advertising, Martin Lang

Bachelors’ Theses

Advertisers many years ago made little use of psychology in their campaigns — at least they claimed the same. But when their advertisements are alalyzed and the motives found to which they appealed in their copy, it is seen that they acted according to the everyday tendencies if mankind and truthfully employed psychology.
