Art As Politics? How Fox News Manufactures Its Hosts’ Performances To Acquire Cable Prestige, Matthew Mcguirk
Art As Politics? How Fox News Manufactures Its Hosts’ Performances To Acquire Cable Prestige, Matthew Mcguirk
The Graduate Review
Fox News is the most popular cable news network in the United States, drawing millions of conservative viewers who trust it more than any other outlet. Although many of the network’s claims are subject to controversy or rooted in falsities, these viewers continue watching, offering a never-before-seen devotion to the network. Using Fox’s coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as insight from Karl Marx and Walter Benjamin, this paper demonstrates how Fox manufactures its hosts’ performances to advance its fetishizing of the commodity of cable prestige.

It particularly investigated how Twitter impacts news content and coverage, journalistic routines, and newsroom practices in Kenya. This study draws its data …

Representations Of Native Americans In Contemporary Media: Dances With Wolves, Diane Sawyer, And Reservation Dogs, Jacqueline Hendry
Dissertations and Theses
Thirty years after Dances with Wolves won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and ten years after the 20/20 special “Hidden America: Children of the Plains” recycled ‘90’s Hollywood tropes to report on poverty on the Pine Ridge Reservation, the 2021 comedy series Reservation Dogs marks a watershed moment in Native representation. Led by an Indigenous cast and Indigenous creative team, it features contemporary aspects of Native life through a particular niche humor that doesn’t explain itself to audiences not in the know. The as-yet unique series has been well-received by Native and non-Native audiences, but in order to appreciate …

The year 2020 brought a widespread closure of movie theaters, exacerbating a trend wherein streaming services gained an increasing importance in movie distribution. The research uses a content analysis methodology to compare film posters across time, from before the beginning of streaming services to the arrival of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.
