Winona Campus Life

Winona Campus Life was a weekly laboratory newspaper produced by the WSU Mass Communciation Department students and printed as a supplement to the Sunday Winona Daily News, which began in September 1983. The newspaper provided coverage of the four institutions of higher education in Winona: Winona State University, St. Mary's University, College of Saint Teresa, and Winona Area Vocational-Technical School. It was created to provide a place for Mass Communcation students to publish their articles and photographs with the idea of generating reader feedback, which is essential in journalism education.

There was Brig[ham] Young. Geo. A. Smith second man in power. Bishop Nusser [Musser]. Bishop Cannon. The editor of the Mormon paper and delegate to Congress. Bishop Hooper and some other Mormon high priests. Boonshoft School of Medicine Oral History Project

This fifth of six interviews with the founding Dean of the Wright State University School of Medicine, Dr. John Beljan, deals with two major areas. The first area is Faculty/Staff recruiting in which Dr. Beljan discusses the methods, priorities, and focuses of the recruiting efforts of the School of Medicine staff. Several key individuals are highlighted.

The second area deals with the development of the Residency Programs inherited and initiated by the Wright State University School of Medicine. Although each program is examined in turn, two distinctly different Residency Programs are highlighted, the Aerospace Medicine and Emergency Medicine Residency Programs.

This second interview with Dr. Beljan is in two parts. The first part is a continuation of the first interview in that Dr. Beljan continues his description of the political problems facing the School of Medicine's development when he arrived as founding Dean.
