Historical Review, Berry Summit Area For Double B Ranch Subdivision Eir, Susie Van Kirk Oct 1976

Historical Review, Berry Summit Area For Double B Ranch Subdivision Eir, Susie Van Kirk

Susie Van Kirk Papers

Attached is a cursory historical review of the Berry Summit area with particular attention given to trails and roads.

There are many references to the native people of this area. The Gregg-Wood party had been instructed by Indians near Weaverville to follow' the Indian trail west eight days to a "large and beautiful bay; early newspaper articles reported many Indian-white difficulties throughout the Redwood Creek drainages; there was an Indian rancheria on Redwood Creek near Berry's in 1890; and Kroeber gives us insight into the life of these people-permanent villages near the creek with temporary summer camps on the prairies …

Spanish Policy Concerning The Apaches In The Eighteenth Century With Emphasis On The Policy Of Bernardo De Galvez, Michael Guy Bishop

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

In 1785, two men came into important government positions in New Spain who had considerable influence on the Indian policies of the Spanish frontier. These men were Bernardo de Galvez and Jacobo Ugarte y Loyola. Both had proven their competence through earlier services to the crown. Galvez had come to the new world while still a relatively young man in 1769. Due to his own accomplishments, and the watchful eye of his uncle, Jose de Galvez, Bernardo advanced rapidly. He first served on the Louisi.ana frontier as a military officer, and in time rose to become governor of that province. …

The Horns Of The North: Historical Sources Of J. R. R. Tolkien's Trilogy, George W. Geib

Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS

Few books have enjoyed the publishing success seen in the last decade by J. R. R. Tolkien's epic fantasy trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. Relf Kieser, Max Frisch: Das Literarische Tagebuch: Book Review, John F. Holley

Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter

The significance of Max Frisch's Diaries as literature is not dependent on a formal satisfaction of structural norms: it is not a art that strives for the perfection of a traditional model, but rather an attempt to move through a linguistic game ("ein linguistisches Spiel") toweard ther boundries of the expressible - toward that point at which, as Rolf Kieser puts it, the reader recognizes the significance of the white spaces between the words ("das Weisse zwischen den Worten"). In his book Max Frisch: Das literarische Tagebuch Professor Kieser bring calls " diaristisch," to the fore and, in a examination …

New Odessa, 1882-1887: United We Stand, Divided We Fall, Helen E. Blumenthal

Dissertations and Theses

The Oregon Territory and later the State of Oregon have had a well-deserved reputation for encouraging free thought and liberal ideas. By tradition, Oregon has been the scene of rugged individualism, a proving ground for ideas and movements. The commune of New Odessa was one of the lesser known attempts of a group of immigrants coming from persecution in Russian to a new way of life in America.

This thesis is a study starting with the background of Russian Jewry, the social climate in the United States and particularly Oregon which allowed for the development of communes, the story of …
