Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Site 41 LK 31/32 is located in Live Oak County, southern Texas on a wide horseshoe bend of the Frio River, approximately 16 km west of the Frio's confluence with the Nueces River. Construction of the Choke Canyon Reservoir by the Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) had necessitated an excavation program at the site prior to destruction. Investigations conducted by the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio, were carried out in two stages, culminating in a major excavation during the summer of 1978. The Elizabethan Clerk Of The Privy Council, F. J. Platt
The Elizabethan Clerk Of The Privy Council, F. J. Platt
Quidditas
One of the least understood facts of Elizabethan administrative history is the importance of the clerkship of the Privy Council. Considered a position of "no small esteem," this "office was singularly rich in men of distinction." Indeed, with the exception of a select few privy councilors, it was the Council clerks who handled the lion's share of the day-to-day business of English government.

Switzerland has a rich literary tradition. In modern times both the German- and the French-speaking regions have produced important writers who left distinctive marks on the literature and culture of their time. The 18th century was a time of literary florescence in Switzerland. Important writers of that period include the Bernese patrician Albrecht von Haller (1708-77), whose long poem Die Alpen (1729; The Alps) extols the beauty and grandeur of nature; Johann Jokob Bodmer (1698-1783) and Johann Jakob Breitinger (1701-66) of Zurich, who helped free German literature from the confines of rigid rules; Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712- 78), "citizen of Geneva," …

The Vanguard
The Rev. Jonathan C. Nelson, a University of Washington Luther an Campus pastor, who intends to get arrested for his planned protest of the arrival of a Trident nuclear submarine at a naval base near Seattle, plans to resign after he is imprisoned.
When the Trident submarine arrives in Puget Sound later this year, Nelson and other protestors (including Nelson's mother) plan to enter the restricted waters around the base in small boats forming a symbolic blockade to stop the Trident from docking.
