Under their reigns, royal power grew, colleges, schools and churches were built; the nobles were humbled and the royal domain increased. In fact some historians credit …

Bachelors’ Theses
In the following pages, I have tried to give some idea of Charlemagne's personality and influence upon European history. No other person means so much in so many ways to the modern world as Charlemagne. Of the four great warriors and conquerors that European history celebrates, Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and Napoleon, it is the chief glory of Charlemagne that he was conspicuously the organizer, the civilizer, the father of governmental organizations and methods as we know them now.

This paper attempts to give an account of the various trails used in settling the fest, their routes, their histories, their travelers, their relative importance, their direct connection with development, the play of circumstances on these highways and these paths as predecessors of the railroads.
